Friendly & interested in improving Reading & English success

As an experienced, certified teacher for students in elementary through graduate school, I work to stimulate a student's learning and interests. I have taught for 30 years in public and private schools as well as in public and private colleges. One of my interesting tasks was teaching Chinese students English while I lived in Taiwan. I have taught business persons English in Venezuela, Korea and Mexico, and at the University of Pittsburgh, I taught business writing. While in the Peace Corp... Read more

PhD for Anthropology/Archaeology and English Tutoring

I'm a recent PhD in archaeology. While I was working on my doctorate, I tutored freshman arch students in seminars and realized that I really enjoy teaching and helping students understand the material. An enthusiastic teacher can really make a difference in how we learn, so I try to create an engaging atmosphere in all my teaching experiences. One of the key things I learned while teaching was that there are many ways people learn and that a good teacher needs to be flexible and understan... Read more

Study Super Social Studies! I can help YOU!

I am a great tutor. It is true, I have a wonderful ability to help you understand history and learn it. Not only that, but you will understand it so well, that you will end up loving it like I do. I didn't start out loving history or social studies. My teachers were boring and unenthusiastic. But it only takes one teacher to change that. One teacher to bring excitement and knowledge into your life and I am that teacher. I live and breath history, especially American history. I am well read in... Read more

Experienced Teacher, Great with a wide range of students!

I am currently self-employed and owner of an educational and self-mediation clinic that I invented, where I teach struggling students who have the propensity to increase their troubled grades how to self mediate in order to accomplish their desired passing grades. I also created a learning model for students with learning disabilities such as ADD, ADHD, dyslexia, brain injuries due to concussions, and behavior problems. I currently use my expertise and special stategies, working as an interim... Read more

Evan

Archaeologist, historian, and writer

I'm a graduate student at the University of West Florida, with two BAs from Eastern Kentucky University; one is in history, and the second is in anthropology with an archaeology minor. I'm a fairly experienced archaeologist and historian, but my talents extend to most academic subjects outside of my specialty because I am a generalist at heart. My primary goal is to help prepare students for success later in life by helping them with the subjects covered on the ACT. However, I am obviously... Read more

Matthew

University & All Levels Teacher, 20 Years of Experience

Hello! I'm Matthew, and I can provide an ideal solution for you through fully customized sessions. I graduated summa cum laude from Mercer University and Oxford University. After earning perfect scores on the GRE, I later pursued postgraduate studies at Indiana University and taught multiple courses. Because of careful investments in the stock market and real estate, I "retired early" around age 26. I own multiple businesses and continue to teach, because those activities are great source... Professional Tutoring

In tutoring I provide quality tutoring lessons for reasonable rates that each client may think worthy of another’s choice and, thus, refer us to another for similar services. General Context Description: The industry background of tutoring as a service has its roots at the dawn of civilization, notably with Aristotle as the paradigmatic tutor of Alexander the Great, teaching his pupil curricula of wide breadth and vast scope, ultimately leading to success in terms of the pupil’s intentions. Tutoring continued through the Renaissance and brought attention to the correspondence form (e.g., Descartes and Princess Elizabeth’s tutoring via epistolary exchange on metaphysical topics such as the possibility of mind-body dualism). Those paradigms of tutoring as service, however, are not reliable for understanding how tutoring works today qua service for high school students (and my customers are usually grades 9-12). Tutoring in the twenty-first century in the United States takes a different form from its earlier developments largely because of the advancements in technology that have enabled the tutoring industry to reach more audiences than ever before. Tutoring services tend to stand divided based on the audience for whom proprietors and/or corporate owners market the service(s). In the literature on tutoring as a profession, the consensus holds that there are two main options for tutoring platforms as businesses. The first is the franchise based company that bifurcates into learning centers (e.g., Huntington Learning Center, Kumon), on the one hand, and independent contractors as tutors, on the other. Tutoring has also been reputed as a service for low achieving students who are falling behind in whichever subjects they seek private instruction. Tutors today, however, are “now being used far more to [1] guide students through particularly tough courses, [2] insure their grades are equal to or above their peers’ and, in the end, [3] polish a child’s college application.” In this way, tutors are sought out in much the same way as tutors were traditionally sought out in the above description. I address this contemporary student who seeks tutoring in subject-matter that challenges his or her reasoning abilities in quantitative, verbal, and languages other than English. Because parents and individual students themselves seek out tutoring beyond the hard cast mold of tutoring the cognitively and/or economically disadvantaged, the market for tutoring services has expanded and, thus, it is no surprise that spending on tutoring increases each year, as executive director of the Education Industry Association Steven Pines reports, “more than five percent a year.” Read more
