Experienced Community College Teacher Specializing in Statistics

Since I graduated high school in June 2008, I have been in higher education either as a student or as an instructor or both. My journey as an educator started as a tutor for mathematics classes at the University of Texas at Austin (UT) where I obtained a Bachelor's in Mathematics. It continued as a recitation instructor for business statistics classes at Michigan State University (MSU) where I obtained a Master's in Statistics. It was then followed by four successful and delightful years as a... Read more

Get Tutored by an Experienced Math Professor

I've been a professor of mathematics here in Gainesville for about 15 years; teaching primarily at Santa Fe College and the University of Florida. In that time I've had the pleasure of teaching students from a wide range of backgrounds; from middle school and high school students to men and women in their 50's and 60's coming back to complete a degree. I've taught the full range of classes in mathematics from basic arithmetic and algebra all the way to advanced calculus. And the one thing I'v... Read more

I became a mathematics tutor at the age of 14. Since then, I have tutored students in mathematics, from grade school through graduate school. I have also taught students mathematics, from grade school through graduate school. My style is simple. I currently continue the great work of educating mathematics students, as a college instructor... Read more

SAT, GRE, Study Skills, College Admissions, and Drumming Tutor

I graduated with Honors in May 2015 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial and Labor Relations (ILR) from Cornell University. Apart from a reading- and writing-heavy ILR curriculum, I minored in Music (I play various percussion instruments and drum set) and Global Health, for which I have traveled to India and Zambia. While balancing numerous leadership positions, I achieved a GPA of 4.111 out of 4.3. Whether welcoming new students as a Big Brother at Corning West High School or as an Orientation Supervisor at Cornell University, I have always found mentoring and helping students to be enjoyable and rewarding. This passion translated well to my roles as a Teaching Assistant for Introduction to Global Health and for a Global Service Learning Program in India at Cornell University. Apart from reading and critiquing assignments, I often met with students not only to discuss class content, but also to act as a mentor. Through it all, I have maintained an emphasis on helping students meet their own goals, rather than imposing my own. In my free time that isn't filled with music or traveling, you might find me playing with my family's five dogs, watching sports occasionally, or teaching myself Hindi for if and when the opportunity arises to return to India. I recently scored a perfect 170/170 on the GRE's Quantitative Reasoning section. SAT and GRE math are notably similar in structure, meaning effective studying strategies for one translate well to the other. I also scored 167/170 on the GRE's Verbal Reasoning section, placing me in the 97th percentile, and 5.0/6.0 on the GRE's Analytical Writing section, placing me in the 93rd percentile. As with math, the structures of the SAT and GRE reading and writing sections are similar. Moreover, apart from a GPA above 4.0 in a very reading- and writing-heavy curriculum, I wrote a Senior Honors Thesis of over 50 pages and had a co-authored article accepted for publication in a peer-reviewed academic journal. I have always enjoyed and been good at editing essays and offering constructive feedback, which has often resulted in marked improvements. In addition to helping develop strategies to meet your standardized testing goals, I have helped guide numerous students through the college search and application process, both informally through friends and formally through Cornell University's Red Carpet prospective student hosting program. Together, we can map out a plan for success tailored to your goals. If you want to know more or schedule a lesson, I encourage you to reach out!
