Vince briefly took guitar lessons in 2001, but soon favored exploring the instrument independently. At the time Vince had been studying trumpet for four years, and applied what he learned about music to the guitar. Vince is largely a self taught guitarist, having transcribed many rock and folk songs. As an undergraduate, he qualified for and enrolled in a graduate level guitar course taught by Mark Dziuba which rounded Vince's playing.
