Hello! I graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University in Biology/Pre-Med and I am currently back in school to become a nurse anesthetist. Throughout high school and college, I have mostly been a freelance tutor for all ages including some college. In 2013, I accepted a position as a tutor at Southeastern in the Center for Student Excellence and loved it! The training I received through the center was amazing and allowed me to further my techniques and skill set with my students. I taught in groups, one-on-one, and online in Biology, Chemistry, English, Math, and Test Preparation. Now, I am even more capable of setting plans up for students depending on their learning style. In 2017, I joined a research project that focused on teaching genetics to high school and college students focusing on STEM. Also, I attended the NSTA conference where I co-presented this research and learned a lot about teaching!
I love using my skills to adapt to each student and creating a plan to reach his or her academic goal. Over the years, I have learned numerous techniques to engage students. It is important that the student stays interested as much as possible so that the information is retained. I try to make learning as fun as possible! I am very hands on and develop study plans to each student. I want to make sure my students feel they are getting the most out of their sessions.
As an ACT math tutor, I make sure to break down the problems and review the students work to see where exactly they went wrong. Once I can pinpoint the mistake, I can focus on that skill. I find ACT math problems are a build of information even in specific categories so it is important that students can tie skills together.
My passion for science would make me an outstanding science tutor! I will strive to ensure that every concept is fully understood and do everything to make that happen. From experience, I realized the most effective strategy is to make science interesting and relate it to everyday life for the student as much as possible
