I have tutored for three years in math and chemistry. In math I have tutored from 1st grade through Precalculus including Algebra 1 & 2, and Geometry. In chemistry, I have tutored students in all types of curriculum including regular, AP, IB, and CP high school courses and freshman in college. I have helped high school students past the CASHEE. I have helped adults pass the GED and learn needed math skills for careers in construction. I have worked with students who have learning disabilities and English language learners. Presently during the day I work as a tutor for two independent study high schools and and in the afternoon and evenings for several agencies as a math and science tutor.

I tutor by following either the students' curriculum or by using books and internet websites as a guides. I tutor by explaining the concepts in relationships to prior learned concepts through step-by-step procedures. I work through example problems and watch while giving hints as the student works through homework problems. I write down notes for the student to take home with example problems.

I have gained extensive knowledge in math and chemistry. I earned a BS and MS from Georgia Tech in chemistry fields and have taken review courses in Algebra 2 and Precalculus recently. I have taken courses for a high school chemistry teaching credential but when I started student teaching I found that the large classroom did not fit my style. I have worked for over 26 years as a chemist in private industry laboratories.

GRE

GRE

The GRE covers mathematical concepts taught in Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2. I have tutored each of these to several students over the past three years. My students include ones in public high schools, in college, and adults wanting to go back to school. Also, I have tutored students in these subjects as my jobs utilize my math knowledge as a math tutor for both Job Corp and for Visions in Education, an independent charter high school . These positions require a knowledge in math up through precalculus. I obtained my math knowledge through earning my BS in Polymers in which I took two years of calculus. I have practiced my math knowledge both through my tutoring and through working as a chemist for over 25 years.

Elementary Education

Elementary Math,

Elementary Math

Math is the relationship of numbers to each other to both solve problems and evaluate products. It is the language of everyday numerical problems from cooking to purchasing. I use math daily and feel that a good base in math is needed to make good life choices.
Elementary Science

Elementary Science

I have been fascinated by science since I was little as I have tried to understand the world around me. I have taken many science courses at the college level including chemistry, geology, biology, physics, and astronomy and appreciate how interconnected they all are. I find science is helpful as I read the news as well when I experience my day-to-day life.

Homeschool

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

I have taken courses in math up through 2 years of calculus in college. I have used algebra in my over 25 years of work as a chemist.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

I have taken math courses up through 2 years of college calculus and have found algebra 2 to be useful as I took college level chemistry courses for my BS and MS degrees.
Chemistry,

Chemistry

I started enjoying chemistry as a child as my father worked with me in our kitchen and related chemistry to cooking. Presently, I have a BS and MS degrees related to chemistry and have worked as a chemist for over 25 years in industry. I have tutored students in regular high school chemistry, in AP chemistry, and in college chemistry. I know what is on the AP exam and will help you learn and understand it.
Geometry,

Geometry

Geometry is the study of angles and shapes and is useful to many trades including carpentry and design. I will try to make geometry easier to remember by the student by breaking its concepts down into components instead of many formulas and definitions. I believe that geometry needs to be drawn to be understood and memorable.
Prealgebra,

Prealgebra

I have studied math up through 2 years of college calculus and believe that prealgebra is where math starts to be interesting and applicable to the world around us in both purchasing and in the science of the world around us.
Precalculus,

Precalculus

Presently, I tutor for an independent-study high school in precalculus. I have recently taken an intensive review course in precalculus with a 100% score to update and perfect my knowledge of this course.
SAT Math

SAT Math

The SAT Math test covers algebra 1 & 2 and geometry. The answers to the problems require understanding of concepts and manipulation of equations quickly. There are several methods that can be applied to answer the problems quickly and I will explain and show these by example. Basic math and geometry terms are on the test and must be known. I will define these for you and help you memorize them. I will work through example problems with you for understanding of terms and methods to solve problems. Illustrations and figures will be used to understand concepts in geometry. Algebra rules will be listed and examples will be given. Examples of several types of word problems will be used. I have used these math concepts during my college career for my BS and MS in chemistry fields and during my career as an industrial chemist.

Math

ACT Math,

ACT Math

The ACT Math test covers math generally learned by the end of 11th grade which includes Algebra 1&2, geometry, and trigonometry. I have taken courses up through 2 years of calculus in college and have used math included in the ACT Math test in my chemistry career and during carpentry repair jobs around my house including staircases on a herring bone pattern deck. I will try to make the memorization of formulas and step-wise procedures for solving the math problems on the test easier by using step lists, giving illustrations, and solving example problems.

Science

ACT Science,

ACT Science

Although the ACT science test covers many different science courses it does not need one's knowledge of a lots of facts. Instead the test is over the use of the scientific process. This process includes scientific reasoning, experimental design, use of math in science, understanding data presentation in graphical format, and understanding of scientific text. During my chemistry career I have used these processes as I have worked in industrial plants to solve production problems. I will try to help you to understand the process of solving a problem through the use of scientific principles that can be applied to all of the sciences and many of the scientific encounters of life.

Geology,

Geology

Geology is story that rocks, rivers, and sand tells us about the history of the earth. By understanding geology as I have through college level courses I can both appreciate what has happened to our Earth and what is in its and our future.
Physical Science

Physical Science

Physical science is the use of math to understand the non-living events around us. Words are used in new ways to describe these events which can be confusing to a student. These words are represented by variables in an equation which adds to the frustration because many new ideas are presented quickly. By making charts and using illustrations I will try to present the new definitions and their associated variables in an orderly manner so that memorization of formulas is easier. Then the application of the math is a simple replacement of variables by numbers. The science is then understood by relating the knowledge of math to the world of science. I have learned many different scientific relationships through years in my chemistry career.

Competent and respectful

5th grade long division. I like that she expresses her opinions which comes with her experience in the best interest of the student. While I wanted my son to complete the whole quiz undisturbed and then check for mistakes, she made him do each question and caught him WHILE he was making the mistake. Thanks.

Great teacher

Rebecca was awesome. Really got into more details of basic chemistry that my daughters professor only briefly mentioned. She also wrote down many short cuts that my daughter can use for future chemistry homework and this will also help her prepare for mid term.

patient & good communication

She has came to my hs only 2x thus far but I am so extremely thankful for her affordable rates, she is patient when instructing & communicates well with me via text since I have been not home due to work.

Good tutor

Rebecca is a good tutor, with great understanding of the subject. Her microphone created a lot of static and made it hard to hear and understand throughout the lesson, or I would have given her 5 stars.

Sherri, 1 lesson with Rebecca

excellent tutor! very nice and very patient

Rebecca was great! She got right down to where my child was in math and started teaching concepts. In just one hour she made a big difference in his understanding and confidence in math!
