I have two Bachelor degrees in chemistry and math. I also have a year of EPA law and won a real live environmental city law suit where my law professor was working with the plaintiff and I was working with the defendant. I worked as an analytical chemist (which includes a lot of math) for 35 years and am now retired.
There are 3 ways to approach all concepts that gets to the exact same conclusion or answer and I start with the one that I like the best. If that doesn't work then I will try the other 2. I do this because not everyone learns using the same approach and this method always works. I also follow 3 steps when teaching. First, what are we trying to do or solve; second, what information do we have or already know; and third, what is the best or most logical way to get to the answer. Every student I have tutored has gone from D's and F's to A's and B's. The most satisfying part of tutoring is the smile on the student's face and excitement and confidence they show when they learn how to do something they were struggling with.
