I can also tutor native English speakers who want to improve their reading, writing and speaking skills for school, work, or social activities. CURRENT TEACHING EXPERIENCE: I teach English as a Second Language to adult learners. I have tutored adults and children in ESL/ESOL, writing, reading, grammar, Spanish, and English. In addition, I recently completed a year of tutoring an elementary school student in math and language arts (literature, reading comprehension, grammar, spelling, writing and handwriting) on a volunteer basis. I currently teach math and language arts to a middle school student.

PAST TEACHING & TUTORING EXPERIENCE/CREDENTIALS: I received my MBA from Columbia University with a concentration in finance. I received my Bachelor of Science degree from Emory University with a major in mathematics/computer science. I also hold a Certificate in Spanish from New York University's School of Continuing Education. I incorporate those teaching strategies which were most helpful to me as a learner of Spanish as a second language into my current work as an ESOL instructor.

I've tutored children in math at the elementary school level on a volunteer basis. I have been professionally engaged to conduct math SAT preparation workshops for high school students. As an adjunct professor, I taught corporate finance (a subject which incorporates algebra, probability and statistics, and other math topics) to adults at Strayer University. In my prior work as a financial analyst, I developed a self-instructional book on corporate finance topics. I also created and taught a credit policy training workshop to corporate employees.

I am currently teaching "Basic" English and "Level 1" English classes adult learners for a local government program. I cover grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing, and conversation skills. (We use the Ventures curriculum published by Cambridge University Press. I also use the Oxford Picture Dictionary, TPR, and realia with my students.) I have also tutored individual students across the spectrum of experience levels. Because of my strong language skills, I recently qualified for admittance into American Mensa based on IQ test results in the top 2% of IQ levels. I can tutor for business, medical, social and academic English.

I began my formal language education while attending an MCPS junior high school. After completing college and graduate business school, I earned a certificate in Spanish from New York University’s School of Continuing Education. While I was in New York, I also worked 1:1 on my conversation skills with a Spanish teacher who was from Madrid, Spain. Later in my professional career, I completed the Rassias Language Immersion Program at Dartmouth University.
