Hi, I’m Jake and I’m a resident physician in Emergency Medicine in West Michigan! I graduated with my M.D. from Wayne State University. I was a both a long-term and short-term tutor for over 30 students during my time at both Michigan State for physiology and Wayne State for my doctorate. I loved teaching so much that it has actually become my career objective. In my future as an attending physician, I would like to take on medical students and assist them in their education. In the meantime, I love spending my time ensuring that future and current college and medical students, engineers, business professionals, etc. meet and exceed all of their educational goals! I specialize in math and science (the medical aspirations make sense) but am well versed in tutoring a wide variety of subjects, especially test taking strategies and pathology, anatomy, and physiology.

While I am tutoring, I encourage students to be active learners, which has been shown to be beneficial for long term learning. I'm a firm believer that if a student can walk me through the material, it signifies that the material has been effectively grasped. As such, as we discuss topics, I ask students to relay their knowledge in a stress free and positive environment, which allows me to understand where students stand, inspire them to try and develop solutions or connections on their own, and finally fill in knowledge gaps. In order to succeed in this approach, I bring a persistent positive attitude and a smile to each tutoring session, which allows for a comfortable environment under which conversation and ideas flow naturally. I aspire to establish a peer to peer relationship instead of a tutor-tutee relationship with each student by creating an environment where learners can build their confidence and actually look forward to each session.

I have a flexible schedule and will work with you and/or your student learner to improve not only their knowledge, but also their outlook on their education.

Anatomy,

Anatomy

At Michigan State, after excelling in anatomy, I participated in a prosection lab where I spent an entire summer dissecting a leg and the head/neck region in great detail. In addition, I am currently in medical school at Wayne State, where we perform full body dissections and have a highly regarded anatomy course and department. I fully immersed myself in this curriculum and am fully prepared to help students understand the human body.
Physiology,

Physiology

I graduated with honors while obtaining a physiology from Michigan State, where our learning experience was both knowledge and application based, as there was a hands-on lab associated with nearly every body system. In addition, I had the opportunity to apply my expertise for two years through work in a basic science endocrine laboratory. Finally, I am in medical school where physiology forms the basis for nearly everything we are learning, allowing me to practice what I hope to help you learn every day!

Test Preparation

MCAT,

MCAT

At Michigan State, I prepared extensively for the MCAT through an excellent Lyman Briggs and physiology curriculum that placed heavy emphasis on biochemistry and psychology. After taking the test myself, I became a tutor for several students in the Lansing area who went on to exceed expectations on the test. In addition, I am now in medical school and understand the subject matters discussed on the MCAT in a great level of detail, allowing me to break down the science in an effective and simple way for students.

Knowledgeable, patient, and ENJOYS teaching!

My daughter has been struggling with Chemistry, I was worried that an online lesson may not do the job. Jake communicated perfectly to know what he needs to cover during the lesson, and planned the lesson. My daughter was more confident after the lesson, Jake worked on the basics that she didn't know.

Knowledgeable and patient.

My son really enjoyed working with Jake. He helped him understand his assignment and prepare him for his chemistry exam. We will definitely use him in the future!
