I knew as a teenager that I wanted to become a teacher. I took dance classes beginning in elementary school and spent many years while in high school as a dance assistant. In college, I had extensive “in classroom” teaching experiences (preschool through grade 5) with several seasoned educators. After graduating from college, I became an after school teacher in/around the greater Boston area for a few years. I then transitioned into an assistant position, and finally became an elementary teacher in Massachusetts. I spent a total of 12 years working in the school system. I now work as a tutor and have worked with students of various ages ranging from 5-11 years old. Everything from phonics, reading, writing, grammar, study skills, math, science and more!
What I love most about tutoring is the chance to work with students, learn their interests, learning styles and strengths, and tailor my lessons/activities to meet their diverse needs.
My qualifications include:
Bachelor's degree in Elementary and Early Childhood
Masters degree as a Reading Specialist
Licensed elementary teacher in the state of Massachusetts
Experience teaching 1st and 3rd grade
Here are some of my MATH trainings/experiences:
Everyday Math
Singapore Math
Sharma Math
Here are some of my READING trainings/experiences:
Fountas and Pinnell Reading
Extensive experience teaching handwriting using Fundations program, Handwriting Without Tears and several other multisensory approaches
I've been trained in Fundations (a multisensory and systematic phonics, spelling, and handwriting program that benefits all K-3 students) and have taught Fundations for many years! I also incorporated various hands on, multisensory activities and exercises to enhance students learning.
