The Languages I teach include Python, Modern JavaScript, Java, C, C++ and Ruby.

My approach is being patient, informal and listening closely to my students. I prefer one-on-one and side-by-side learning and working through problems and projects together. Most important, I care a great deal about helping my students succeed!

Need coding advice? Or having trouble dealing with a complicated codebase? I have over 20 years of industry experience as a software developer, architect and project lead. I consult using Java, JavaScript, C, C++, Python, Spring Framework, Android, Angular, React, Full Stack Web development and a whole host of other technologies.

I am a scientist (physicist), software engineer and tutor, with a PhD in Physics and a background in Math and computer science. I've been tutoring high school, home school, college students and adult life-long learners for the past 15 years, and I love doing it. I draw on my years of experience, to bring life to sometimes otherwise dry subject matters. I focus on the intuitive, helping students develop a deeper understanding of the subject, develop problem solving skills

My Background: I graduated from the University of Maryland Honors College, with a Bachelors in both Physics and Mathematics in 1992, followed with a PhD in Physics, from SUNY Stonybrook in 2000. I've worked with Lasers; slowing and trapping atomic beams; calculated the equations of state of collapsing neutron stars; climate modeling; Accelerator Particle Physics Simulations; Quantum density matrix computations; computati

I have worked with Angular specifically for almost 8 years now, I can guide you though the Angular architecture, with or without TypeScript. I can show you how to effectively use Components and Services, structure your Angular Modules, write your own Directives, work with the Angular IoC/dependency injection architecture, lazy initialize components and routes, use the Router effectively, to solve your routing challenges as well as instruct you in industry best practices.. I regularly teach students how to program in modern JavaScript, ES6/ECMAScript JQuery, Angular, React, Flux, Redux, Axios, Fetch, D3, Underscore, NodeJS, Express, Handlebars, SQL/RDMS, SQLite, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Microsoft, SQL Server, Oracle, MongoDB, Firebase, Responsive Mobile first design, HTLM 5, CSS3, Bootstrap/Foundations, Git and Github, as well as other tools and technologies for bringing your Site to life. I help my students to learn web design with modern techniques, web programming, creating and consuming RESTful API's, Google API's including maps, cloud hosting, cloud services (such as Firebase, AWS S3 and more), social media integration, routing, MVC architectures and so much more. My students include high school students; current and newly matriculated University students; Boot Camp and nano degree students; as well as mid career adult students, looking to step into new roles or change positions. I work by helping my students in gaining confidence, adding to their programming portfolios, learning new technologies and shoring up their understanding of programming topics.

Calculus,

Calculus

Calculus in one of my favorite subjects to tutor. As a Physicist, and even as a software engineer, I have had a long acquaintance with both analytical and numerical methods in Calculus, and in teaching and explaining them to others. I find that while people are often intimidated when they are first exposed to the subject, given the right attention and individual coaching, they can easily master the subject. In addition to helping you master the subject, I will also introduce you to so many additional resources, available free online, to help you along your Calculus journey. While it may seem sometimes that Calculus is just one great big mixed up jumble of finicky techniques and obscure rules and ideas. I believe the subject can become completely intuitive and understandable with the right teaching methods. Let me help you untangle that mess and master this subject. Calculus is such an important subject, both to your education and your future. Don't let your GPA or future suffer!
Geometry,

Geometry

Teaching geometry requires a different touch, than most other Math Classes. Geometry is unique among the early math classes, as it relies mainly on the ability to reason spatially, and not on the ability to manipulate symbols on a page. Yet, geometry is probably one of the most important courses you will ever take, as many Mathematicians say, "All math IS Geometry." With a PhD in Physics, and an interest in many pure maths, such as differential geometry, abstract algebra, discrete math, computer algorithms, and number theory, I spend allot of time revisiting the Concepts I learned in Geometry. Let me help you gain and understanding and an appreciation for this incredible subject.
Physics,

Physics

High-school Physics, AP Physics, College and Graduate level Physics? I have tutored students extensively in all of these areas. My Doctorate is in Physics, and Physics is truly my first love. Students are all too often turned off by their early experience, in introductory classes, largely due to dry inconsistent teaching or incomprehensible examples. I would love the opportunity to change your mind, and share with you the beauty of this subject. Let me help you to shine in this incredible and exciting subject.
Precalculus,

Precalculus

Getting ready for Calculus is an exciting time! Precalculus is partly a review of algebra, geometry and trigonometry along with a range of new topics. Precalculus is an excellent time to solidify the foundation necessary, to enable you to solve many real-world problems, and make Calculus easy. As for my qualification, I've been teaching High School and College Mathematics, both online and in person for the last 10 years. I have a Bachelors in both Math and Physics, and a PhD in Physics. I believe in working with students to help them develop a deep understanding of the fundamentals, as well as teach them useful strategies to solve problems and study techniques to excel in their testing. I focus on problem solving using real world examples, to show how relevant and useful These problems solving techniques can be. My goal is to make math fun, not boring, and pleasant, not intimidating. Whether you are looking to go on to Calculus, or just get through the Precalc material, I am here to help you succeed and build the confidence you need to shine!

Jeffrey is awesome, very patience, very knowledgeable, and has great communication skills/teaching abilities. He had helped me with my capstone to piece together my SQL with Hibernate+Java. He also helped me work with the Spring Boot framework.

Knowledgeable and kind.

Jeffrey taught my kid comp programming. They went over some of her problems and he gave her scenarios to help her think through the problems so that she could understand how to work out a solution if she had to do on her own.

Great tutor

I just started with Jeffrey. He clearly has strong python and general IT skills. He is also a great teacher, explaining each step clearly until I understand. He listened well to all my requirements and worked them into the lesson. I look forward to continuing my work with him.

Used once, will seek out next time

I am working through a self paced software engineering bootcamp and was struggling to get through a certain portion of it. Jeffery hopped right on zoom with me and we shared screens with each other and he walked with me through the coding challenge I was dealing with, and simultaneously spoke to the mindset of coding and a few related issues. Very helpful and honestly felt lucky that he was there for me.
