Hi! I'm Heidi. I am a reading tutor/ESL teacher with a love for travel. I have tutored in reading for over a year and taught ESL for 5 years. I completed my undergrad from The Crown College with an emphasis in Linguistic Studies and Structured Literacy. I first developed my love for teaching while I lived in the United Kingdom where I was able to teach English to people from all over the world. I started tutoring a student with reading problems shortly after I returned to the United States and really enjoyed watching the student begin to understand concepts and new skills.

I have been teaching English for five years while working on my TESOL certification and undergrad. I have taught English in England, Canada, and Uganda, as well as in the United States. For a year, I taught at an English class at the University of Tennessee on a weekly basis. I have been able to teach students from China, Pakistan, India, Columbia, Spain, France, South Korea, Iran, etc.

I have been trained in an Orton-based method that utilizes an explicit, direct, multi-sensory approach for struggling readers/spellers and those with a learning disability, dyslexia, ADD, ADHD, etc. Through using this method, I have personally seen improvement in students who were behind and struggling in reading because of ADD, ADHD, dyslexia, and autism.
