Hello, my name is Robert.

I have been tutoring full time for about 5 years now and part time for about 15 years. I am capable of tutoring all high school math courses (including calculus) and some college level math courses. Most of my students I get through word of mouth but I also take students from Wyzant. In fact, I just recently updated my profile.

I believe that each student is different when it comes to learning and I try to adjust my tutoring style to fit the student's needs. In some cases, such as with algebra courses, it is most efficient to teach by example. In courses, such as calculus, I use both guided questions and examples to help the student get the answer.

I have references available, if you need them.

Thank you.

Approved Subjects

Homeschool

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

I have tutored Algebra for over 10 years now. I feel that this subject is best taught through numerous examples. Algebra is the language of mathematics and languages are best taught by example.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

I have tutored Algebra 2, both regular and advanced, for over 10 years. It is a continuation of the language of Algebra 1 and is also best taught by example.
Calculus,

Calculus

I have taught both AB and BC Calculus. With these classes, examples can be helpful, however I feel that learning the thinking process that goes into solving problems is more important for success. So while I still use examples, I also try to guide the student through the thinking process needed to solve the problem so that when they encounter a new problem, they know how to think about it. I strongly feel that independent thinking and problem solving should be focused on with Calculus.
Geometry,

Geometry

I have taught both regular and advanced Geometry for over 10 years. Regular geometry tends to focus on just memorizing theorems and applying them, so I use examples to teach it. Advanced geometry, however, is a student's first introduction to proofs. To succeed with proofs, students must have the concepts of theorems, postulates and axioms memorized extremely well. So I encourage them to make flash cards of the theorems, postulates and axioms. After the theorems are memorized, I teach them how to use them to prove other theorems. Proofs require logical thinking, so I try to guide the student through the thought process.
Precalculus,

Precalculus

I have tutored all high school level math courses for many years, including pre-calculus and calculus.

Geometry

Helpful and patient tutor. Would have been great if he was a Texas person that knew the TEKS curriculum. But otherwise it was fine. Went through detailed explanation.
