Looking for someone to work with your student who is flexible in teaching style and offers a variety of services? You've found the right person! I enjoy working with students of all ages and learning styles, in many different subject areas as a tutor or homeschool teacher. I am very creative in my teaching methods, as I teach to the individual student, reaching to where he/she is coming from. I believe all students have their own unique learning styles, and finding out a student's learning style then teaching to that style is a key to each student's success.

I have experience working with students of varied abilities, including those with special needs, particularly ADD, ADHD, and autism. There are many interventions that I teach to assist my students in their success. In addition, I have many years of personal experience in these areas, as I have a child of my own with autism, another child with ADD, and a niece with down syndrome.

I have a great deal of training and experience in the field of social work and advocacy, which helps a lot in my work with all students. Learning is much more than simply memorizing what is read from a book or written in a notebook. Learning involves all one's senses and many different experiences affecting the student.

I feel that combining all my many different work and training experiences - social work, advocacy, teaching, childcare - as well as my own life experiences, allows me to offer a very unique and creative teaching and learning experience to my students. I look forward to working with your student, and making a difference in his/her life!

My newest area of services is consulting! I provide parents with consulting in both educating their child by providing curriculum and teaching assistance (ideas, materials, etc.), and in advocacy by providing information on education laws and IEP's.

You no longer have to go it alone; please contact me today for help for your child or yourself!

For several years, I have worked as the Primary Teacher for many Homeschooled students, both typical students and those with disabilities. The subjects I have taught include all core subjects (Math, ELA, Science, Social Studies), and also Art (studio and Art History), Music, Technology, and Study Skills (Executive Functioning Skills). In addition, my experience includes arranging/designing curriculum, planning and preparing all lessons; as well as completing End-of-Year Portfolios and Proposals for the following year. My approach is usually Hands-On, using a great deal of manipulatives and educational tools, as well as field trips. I achieve this approach in an online format, as well! Recently, my experience has focused mainly on virtual teaching, due to the pandemic.
Study Skills,

Study Skills

I am qualified to tutor in the area of study skills because of both my education and my experience in this area. I am a college graduate; therefore, I was trained in study skills methods for years in both high school and college. I was always very organized and efficient as a student myself. This included keeping binders and notebooks in chronological order, tracking assignments in a calendar and breaking down projects into smaller goals, as well as using various test preparation methods to succeed on assessments. I have experience working with students of all ages and abilities on organizational skills, as well as on various methods to prepare for test-taking. Test preparation methods include some very creative, engaging activities using the material, so as to help the learner internalize the material. Study Skills are extremely important to teach from an early age and ongoing as the student develops in his/her learning.

Great Approach

Colette is always finding new ways to teach my son math concepts through games. He really gets to understand math better because she tailors the lessons to his learning style.

Cheryll, 44 lessons with Colette

Did research before lesson to help me.

Colette did exactly what I needed to get me started with Boardmaker. Gave me materials to work with. She was very helpful and got back to me immediately on text. I would highly recommend her as a tutor.
