Hello,
My name is James! I am currently working as a professional Product Development and Test Engineer in the Medical Device industry. I graduated from Santa Clara University with a Major in Mechanical Engineering and a Minor in Design.
From a young age, the idea of becoming an engineer was equally as exciting as it was terrifying. I saw a bright future for myself but was discouraged with my academic struggles from such a young age. It wasn't until the 4th grade where I met a teacher who saw in me what I saw in myself and took the initiative to teach me the right way. This meant first figuring out my misunderstandings, helping to lay them out in front of me, addressing them individually, and working to create a path forward for future success. This teacher instilled practicality, confidence, and purpose to my education. I went from hating and shying away from math and other subjects to enjoying them and speaking up in class. With this newfound confidence, I continued to do well in middle school and went on to graduate high school with a 4.0 and a 5/5 on AP exams including: AP Chemistry, AP Calc, AP history, and AP GOV. This academic success essentially granted me a full ride to Santa Clara University where I graduated and was hired as a professional engineer straight out of college.
Throughout the past 6 years, I have tutored in a mixture of in-person and online settings. I believe the basis of good teaching is communication and that each student will have a slightly different communication style that a good tutor must understand and adapt to. I know how to untangle the basis of a student's misunderstanding and explain complicated concepts as easily understandable building blocks. I have helped students with subjects such as Common Core, Pre Algebra, Pre Calculus, Algebra I, Algebra II, Essay Building, Physics, and many other subjects. I look forward to meeting you!
