From 2013-2021 I taught Supplemental Instruction for Calculus 1, a non graded course to give at-risk and volunteer enrollees additional support/instruction for their graded Calc I course. I would then typically tutor Calc II at the Naval Academy to the Summer School students. My last assignment on active duty in the Navy before retiring in 2009 was as the Director of Professional Tutoring at the United States Naval Academy, where I supervised 8 Masters/PhD level tutors, taught Learning Skills (Time Management, Note Taking, Test Taking, etc.), and tutored Calc I, Statics and the ASTB.

I taught as an Adjunct Instructor at the United States Naval Academy for 2 semesters teaching Calculus I and was also employed by the Naval Academy as a tutor for Precalculus, Calculus I, and Calculus II for 3 years. After accepting a non-teaching full time position at USNA I continued to teach one section of Supplemental Instruction for Calculus I at the Naval Academy for 10 years, a non-graded voluntary course for those who wish additional help for their graded Calculus I course. I stopped teaching this course in Dec 2021 when I left USNA for a position at USCGA.

Test Preparation

ASVAB,

ASVAB

I am familiar with both the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) and the Aviation Selection Test Battery (ASTB). The ASVAB is used by all of the military services to qualify for enlisted positions, while the ASTB is used by the Navy for officer programs and the Marine Corps and the Coast Guard for officer flight programs. I took the ASVAB when I was in 10th grade and received scores (in percentile) of Verbal-96, Math-97, Perceptual Speed-22 (I was a slow reader), Mechanical-98, Trade Technical-87, and Academic Ability-98. I tutor the ASTB at the United States Naval Academy. In March 2010, I was hired by Barron's Educational Series as an Independent Contractor to review their Military Flight Aptitude Tests book for a future edition.

I couldn't have asked for a better experience...

I have NEVER been a student that excelled in math (think "C" average). My greatest accomplishment of 2014 was getting an "A" in calculus with Joe's help! Joe is an exceptional tutor! I needed someone who was willing to be patient and explain every concept...sometimes more than once. He was very flexible, and was always willing to stay past the 60 minute time-frame and help. He provided me with his own study sheets which were very helpful. Joe is great at finding your weaknesses and addressing them early. He makes sure you have a solid background before moving onto harder concepts. Joe did the impossible: making calculus enjoyable. Joe cares about his students and their success; he sent me a motivational email before my final. Joe was the first person I called when I found out I got an "A" because it would have been impossible without his help. I would recommend Joe to everyone and anyone who needs a math tutor.

Since I got Joe for my daughter for AP Calc. After every session she has gotten an A on her quiz or test. She seems a little more confident in her ability and knowledge

Calculus

Joe was very helpful and easy to work with. Would highly recommend him for anyone looking for a tutor that is vested in the students success. Joe makes learning calculus less stressful and looks to find a bridge to learning the topic more easily.
