My name is Diana. I am married with five children. I have recently complete my Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education for the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. I have a 3.848 GPA and will graduate with Honors in the April 2012 Graduation Ceremony. In looking at the future, I will be attending Saint Joseph's University to complete my Special Education Certification and a Master Degree in Special Education.

My strongest areas include Math, Language Arts, and Art, but I am also certified to teach all areas in grades K-6. I can help with Math from Elementary to Pre-Calculus; Language Arts (reading, spelling, phonics, vocabulary, and writing) and Art, including drawing and painting on canvas, pottery, and ceramics.

I believe that every child can and will learn, if just given the proper attention to his or her needs. The teacher needs to teach to those needs. In tutoring throughout my Language Arts Methods classes, I have found that the one-on-one attention can do wonders for a student in trouble. For example, I tutored a child in reading and vocabulary and helped her gain a whole grade level in ten weeks. She was so thrilled that she asked for me the next term. My secret was that I found what she was interested in and used that to help her want to learn. I am currently tutoring a second-grader in math, and believe that he will make great strides in the next few weeks, as he has already improved a great deal.

While I cannot guarantee success in a session or two, I will do all I am capable of to help your student get from where he or she is to where he or she needs to be.

Thank you for taking the time to read my information, and for your consideration. I look forward to helping you soon.

Drawing

Drawing

I took several art and drawing classes at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. Some of my pieces were selected for display at the Art Gallery on Campus. I loved the art classes so much that I ended up minoring in art. I believe that drawing is based on the perception of the artist. However, there are many things to learn about spacing, shading, positioning, and coloring that a non-drawing person might not be able to acclimate to without instructions or accommodations.

Elementary Education

Elementary (K-6th),

Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary Education involves teaching the basics of the alphabet, numbers, colors, shapes, art, math, reading, writing, and phonics in Kindergarten and first grades. Other grades (2-6) need to know more phonics, spelling, and the integration of both into writing, reading, math, science and social studies. I believe that it takes a strong foundation in the basics to allow the children to grow and prosper. Without this strong foundation, the child will most likely struggle for many years to come. In this case, tutoring will allow the student to catch-up and become more successful.
Elementary Math,

Elementary Math

Math can be difficult without the proper foundation since one needs to understand the basics before delving into more difficult concepts. For example, without mastering the simple steps like addition and subtraction, the student will have great difficulty mastering multiplication and division.
Reading,

Reading can provide hours of enjoyment, entertainment, and excitement. However, for those struggling to read, it will provide nothing but frustration. Reading fluency and comprehension can be learned through patience, repetition, and proper direction from professional guidance.

I believe that study skills kept me in the right place at the right time. I completed my Bachelor Degree in 2 years and 4 months, with a 3.848 GPA. I believe that studying correctly allows the student to retain more information in much less time.
