Hi!

I graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with three majors: Economics (concentrating in Finance), International Studies, and French.

You could say that I'm a reformed investment banker. After three years in that business, I want to give something back to the community. I've had the privilege of a diverse education and bounced around Wall Street for 10+ years, so I can offer tutoring in these areas:

- Finance / Accounting / Excel: I majored in Finance from Wharton, I'm a CFA charterholder, and I have worked on more Excel spreadsheets than you can shake a stick at. I can address a wide range of topics, including how to read financial statements, corporate finance and valuation, what the heck is a VLOOKUP function, and personal finance.
- Spoken Mandarin Chinese: I was born in China, speak Chinese with my parents, and go back to China often to see extended family, so I've kept up my Beijing Chinese accent despite being in New York all these years.
- English / reading / writing / SAT verbal and writing: I scored an 800 on the SAT verbal, the SAT II Writing, and the SAT II Literature tests. Even though I work in finance, I'm still an avid reader and love rereading classics like Wuthering Heights from time to time. I'm also a grammar stickler.
- French: I majored in French and spent a whole year in Paris during my junior year.

So there you have it. I am more than happy to set up a pre-lesson call to understand your tutoring needs and work out a plan so that you get the most out of your time and money.

Best,
Yang

I am also a CFA charterholder, and passing the three exams necessary to become a charterholder involves a deep understanding of corporate finance, accounting, portfolio construction, and economics.

Grammar

My high school is a very traditional grammar school in many ways and really drilled the rules of grammar into me. Grammatical errors can create a hard-to-reverse first impression -- recruiters will even stop reading resumes and toss them upon finding grammatical errors. I am more than happy to help instill a sense of what is grammatically correct and a habit of writing correctly and concisely. I also took Latin for a number of years, which helped me think even more about phrasing and word choice in English. In terms of qualifications, I have scored 800 on the SAT Verbal, and the SAT II exams in Literature and Writing. I also scored a 5 on the AP English Literature exam.

I go through dozens of news articles a day, and occasionally reread a classic or two to help build and maintain my vocabulary. I am happy to pass on tips about how to remember large quantity of words and also how to eliminate incorrect choices on a test even if you are not sure of what the right answer could be. My high school was very rigorous on essay construction and developing a point clearly and persuasively through writing, which prepared well for college and beyond, and I would be happy to teach those same methods and tips to others.

Extremely knowledgeable and patient

Yang was great at helping me understand the concepts I needed to master. I felt comfortable asking him to go over the same thing a few times so that I made sure I understood the theories. Just 2 hours and I am much, much better at financial modelling. Would highly recommend Yang.

Phenomenal!!

Being unfamiliar with Excel, I was finding a graduate school accounting class impossible. Yang walked me though the exercises patiently. He is an outstanding teacher and I'm looking forward to our next session. I couldn't recommend him more highly.
