We learn best when we are relaxed, interested, and talking about things that matter to us. I design lessons based on your interests. I am TESOL certified and working on a masters degree in TESOL. I love teaching and getting to know my students and their stories. My method is very conversational and relaxed but I will concentrate on any area that you want to improve, whether it's pronunciation (accent), building your vocabulary, or starting at the beginning with basic words and phrases....

I successfully taught many first-time readers phonics and other decoding skills. I teach children to identify what sounds the letters make. We focus on words that use a certain letter sound until they are familiar with that letter sound. We begin to read simple texts that have 3-letter short vowel words. Later, I teach about letter pairs and the sounds they make, decoding rules such as final "e" and short vowel sounds versus long vowel sounds, and silent letters. As we begin to read, we discuss stories (to check for understanding) and predict what will happen next. I have access to a variety of short passages on diverse topics so that they become familiar with progressively more complex words.
