Bio

Hello, I am Teacher Rusty! I have taught grades PreK - 8th. My 15 years of teaching have presented many successes and failures molding me to be the teacher I am today. Half of this time was spent teaching "Common Core" math.

I love seeing the joy that comes when a child learns and masters a new skill. I am a very energetic teacher and I love making kids excited about learning. My goal while teaching with Wyzant is to help students from around the world reach their fullest potential.

If your child is struggling in math, needing a teacher to provide ongoing support via a curriculum, or wanting to rise above the rest, I am the tutor that you have been looking for. Humor is a big part of the class, when applicable; because I believe laughing is learning. Kids should not hate or dread math because it's hard. They should be taught math is great because it is fun.

I am a qualified elementary math tutor for grades K-6 because over the last ten years I worked with all age groups within these grades from tutoring one on one or classroom setting. I am the “Approachable” teacher at school; students feel comfortable and safe around me enough to share their troubles with me. Some say I am a gifted teacher; I do not think I would go as far as to say that. The reason is quite simple. In school, I struggled with math and even other subjects, but mostly math. I do not think accommodations were even a thing back then. It was not until I graduated from school that I actually started understanding my lack of understanding. I noticed that I can learn almost anything if I could just find a way to teach myself and my learning style. This struggle has made me an amazing teacher; it may have been a gift, but it was certainly earned. These troubles have allowed me to alter my lessons on the spot for any student’s learning style because I too had to struggle when I was in their position. Most coaches of sports teams are former players, why because they learned from hard work, struggles, and failures. These people know what it’s like to be in the shoes of the players; that is how I see myself. I am that experienced coach that went through many seasons of life; not only to help mold myself but to help others. Additionally, I work with students in elementary mathematics and help them to master the fundamental skills to excel in this subject area such as counting, adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing single digit and multiple digit numbers, and working with fractions. Also, I have experienced being a principal which has taught me many things when it comes to students as a “whole” and “one-on-one.” I have taught math using Common Core and had the experience of teaching other teachers to implement this curriculum. I have seen things from all sides, as a student, parent, teacher, and principal. I believe that it is imperative to build and cultivate the basic skills, which creates a solid
