I've been teaching CHEM101 and CHEM102 (the first and second levels of General Chemistry for science majors) as an adjunct professor at Frederick Community College for 12 years. The content covered in these courses is the same content encountered in the AP Chemistry course in high school. I've had the opportunity to teach over a thousand students. I've been teaching CHEM101 and CHEM102 (the first and second levels of General Chemistry for science majors) as an adjunct professor at Frederick Community College for 12 years. The content covered in these courses is the same content encountered in the AP Chemistry course in high school. I've had the opportunity to teach over a thousand students. I've taught students with a wide range of abilities, which really helps you learn to explain the material in lots of different ways and to ask the right questions to "get inside the mind" of the student so you can lead them to success.

For the past 4 years, I've also been working part-time as a private Chemistry tutor through Wyzant. I've had the opportunity to tutor over 100 students from all over the country one-on-one through their Chemistry courses, which range from high school level Chemistry to AP Chem to first year college Chem all the way to graduate programs. Most of my students meet with me using the online platform that Wyzant offers, which is really convenient, easy to use, and after about 5 minutes, feels like we are sitting in the same room. At this point in my career, I've seen almost every type of question students have, and have well-thought-out ways of helping students comprehend the problem-solving techniques and concepts required to master the material. I have the people skills to adjust to a student's own personality, learning style, and ability and have had lots of experience helping students succeed in their courses.

I have a B.S. in Biochemistry from Messiah College and a Ph.D. in Immunology from Tufts University. At Tufts, I was awarded the Norman Krinsky Excellence in Teaching award for my work leading the supplemental Biochemistry instruction for medical students.

An amazing, kind, and knowledgable tutor!

Michelle helped me all throughout gen chem 2 at my university, and she helped me understand every single topic so well and easily. She's kind and patient, and will repeat and slow down on topics if needed. I love how visual and simple her way of teaching is, making the topics simple and digestible. She taught the way I learn best. Throughout every single one of the many lessons and units, I never got confused on a single one, and if I did, she'd easily explain it and make me realize how the topic isn't that bad. Again, her way of visualizing the topics clicked with me so well that my notes were simple but completely understandable. Michelle is flexible with timing, and will work with you to make sure you get the help you want and need. She's incredibly organized with her thoughts, and if you say what topic you need help with, she knows what to teach and how to guide you. She genuinely made me so excited for our sessions, and I find myself loving chemistry so much more than before, rather than dreading it. Michelle helped me so much and made me love and appreciate chemistry and how it's so cool.

After one session, my daughter (9th grade) finally understands what her AP chemistry teacher is talking about in class! Michelle saw the holes in my daughter’s basic understanding, and was able to weave in basic concept review AND at the same time teach the current material my daughter was having trouble with. I would almost go so far as to say that this one session changed my daughter’s feelings about chemistry from one of utter dread to near enjoyment. Awesome tutor. 😊

College Gen Chem Superstar!!

Michelle helped my daughter with her college Gen. Chem class and we had used her previously for AP Chem in high school. Quite frankly Michelle is amazing and explains things in a way that really simplified it for my daughter. My daughter was super stressed as she was getting confused early on in the semester and feeling like she was falling behind. She worked with Michelle with the areas she was confused on and felt so much more confident the rest of the semester. She actually went into her final exam feeling super prepared and ready. Michele was always flexible with her schedule and even would do a session the afternoon before big tests to help with those last minute questions. Her technique makes it feel like they were in the same room during the session. My daughter was considering dropping Pre-Med track because she was struggling with Gen. Chem and now she’s actually excited to take Organic Chem next semester. A huge shift in her confidence. I would give Michelle 10 stars if I could!!
