I have loads of experience helping students master the fundamentals of R and graduate-level statistics. I served as a teaching assistant at the University of Chicago (2020-23) for 4 graduate-level courses and 6 different professors, working with 200+ students to master the basics of statistics, programming, policy analysis, and persuasive policy writing. In addition to offering regular 1:1 tutoring, I led weekly 2-hour ‘R Bar’ trainings where our class of ~25 students would use R to answer challenging policy questions with real-world data (it was a blast!).

I also have ample experience using R and statistics in professional settings. For nearly 4 years I worked as an economic and public policy consultant in Washington D.C. I led the design, implementation, and evaluation of multiple Randomized Control Trials (RCTs) for FEMA and the U.S. National Flood Insurance Program, each involving hundreds of thousands of households. I also led all R-related trainings for our firm and worked with new hires throughout their analytical onboarding.

I earned my economics degree (with honors) from Washington University in St. Louis in 2015. In 2023 I graduated from the University of Chicago with an MBA (Booth School) and quant-heavy Masters of Public Policy (Harris School).

I now live in Seattle and work in a strategy function at a major tech firm. I love rock climbing, tending to my out-of-control houseplant collection, and waking up stupidly early to watch English soccer on the weekends.

TA Experiences at UChicago: Data Analysis 1 with Profs. Asai & Moskowitz (3 quarters); Analytical Politics 2 with Profs. Zelizer & Berry (3 quarters); Statistics 2 with Profs. Asai, Gaarder, Wright; Workplace & Family Policy with Prof. Asai

Whether its collaborating on standout personal statements, refining and punching-up resumes, running through mock interviews, or even creating a high-level strategy for where and when to apply, my job is to help you hit your most ambitious professional goals. As a personalized MBA application coach, I help clients apply to some the most selective programs in the country. I place particular emphasis on essays & personal statement support, crafting compelling career narratives, fine-tuning resumes, preparing your recommenders to give strong letters of support, and preparing for admission interviews. I love working with clients to develop personalized applications that powerfully reflect their unique strengths and experiences. I have a wealth of experience navigating graduate application processes. I graduated with my MBA and Master of Public Policy from the University of Chicago (2020-23), but also gained admittance to MBA programs at MIT, Dartmouth, Yale, and UC Berkeley (all with scholarships). First-rate Tutor

Mathias is a first-rate tutor. He has a high-level understanding of R and statistics, as well as deep understanding of quantitative research methodologies for social sciences, including politics and economics. He is also patient and accommodating, and able to explain concepts in clear and easy-to-understand terminology that fit well with my level of comprehension. Fully recommend him as a tutor for R, data science, and quantitative methods, as well as social and economic policy analysis.

Full of Knowledge and Very Calm

I have a hard time finding the words for what I need to learn and he does a great job at being intuitive and giving prompts to help the lesson move forward. When we finished our first session, I had a much better grasp on what I wanted to learn next.
