Greetings,

Welcome to my tutoring profile.

I have been tutoring through Wyzant for over 10 years.

My educational qualifications include a M.S. in physics from UC Riverside as well as a B.S. in physics with a specialization in astrophysics from UC San Diego.

My experience as a teacher outside Wyzant includes one year of teaching physics at Shoreline Community College and two years of teaching physics labs, and discussion sections at UC Riverside.

The teaching method I use is a mix of explanation and demonstration. I focus on helping the student understand the critical how and why of each step. I have a lot of patience, and will never judge you for a lack of understanding. I'll take the time to make sure you feel comfortable with each step before we go on to the next.

Minimum tutoring time: 1 hour.
No house calls.

Cancellation Policy: Cancellations can be made up until 2 hours before the scheduled meeting time to avoid a cancellation fee.

Cancellations not in accordance with the cancellation policy may be assessed a fee up to the cost of one tutoring hour.

C,

C

I tutor basic C programming. I learned C programming at UCSD taking MAE9 which is C programming for scientists and engineers. I also used C programming to process data during a 6 month theoretical astrophysics research project. I have ready-to-go C programming problem sets for students to work through to learn the basics of C.
Linux,

Linux

I have been using Linux for about three years as the default operating system on a dual boot computer. I have experience with a handful of flavors including ubuntu, mandriva, and debian. I am familiar with common operations and advanced system settings. I am also familiar with many command line functions as well as how to manually install programs that are not prepackaged .rpm or .deb files.
Microsoft Windows,

Microsoft Windows

I have been using Windows since Windows 95. I currently use Windows XP on a dual boot computer next to Linux. I am familiar with everything from installation of Windows to everyday operations, as well as more advanced tasks such as editing the registry.
Python,

Python

My educational qualifications include a M.S. in physics from UC Riverside as well as a B.S. in physics with a specialization in astrophysics from UC San Diego. My experience as a teacher includes one year of teaching physics at Shoreline Community College and two years of teaching physics labs, and discussion sections at UC Riverside. I used Python throughout graduate school and have continued to use it as my programming language of choice. I currently use Python for data science projects and to generate articles on my website. I've seen a lot of developers who still use a basic text editor and rest assured that is not what you will get here. I will show you all the free tools I use for creating, testing, and running code in a streamlined way where you won't feel like you are always looking at it through a microscope.

Excellent Tutor

Andrew assisted my son in understanding concepts in AP Statistics. He was having having a great deal of difficulty understanding the subject matter, it just wasn't making sense. But after meeting with Andrew for only 1 lesson, the concepts became much clearer. Andrew has excellent communication skills and was able to quickly summarize my son's learning style, make him feel comfortable and give him the help he needed. Instead of dreading his upcoming quiz, he has much more confidence and is looking forward to the opportunity to utilize what he has learned. I highly recommend him. Thank you Andrew!

Sherry, 1 lesson with Andrew

Pre-calculus. Great help.

Andrew helped my daughter with pre-calculus. He is very patient and knowledgeable in the subject. It is very easy to schedule a lesson with him.

Lilo, 1 lesson with Andrew

Patient and knowledgeable

My daughter needed help with both physics and calculus. Andrew not only responded immediately to our tutoring request, but was able to extend his first tutoring session in order to cover both subjects. My daughter found his tutoring style very helpful - he is patient and explains difficult concepts in a way that makes them easier to understand. He has already increased her level of confidence in these challenging subjects.

Well Grounded in Experience and Knowledge.

Andrew is excellent to work with and explains concepts clearly. I highly recommend Andrew as a tutor. He was able to explain concepts that I was struggling with. A good tutor like Andrew ultimately saves both time and money. I have a new attitude about the course work I have to complete.
