I am Shriya! I graduated Summa cum laude from DePaul University with a Master's in Physics and I'm currently doing a PhD in Applied Physics at University of Michigan. I was a teaching assistant at DePaul University for the introductory physics sequence (mechanics, heat waves and light, and electricity and magnetism). At DePaul, I took a class in Physics education research which taught me methods that enable students to retain and recollect information successfully and consistently, and as a result, improve their grades. I implemented these techniques while teaching and saw great improvement as well as an increase in students' motivation to learn. I begin with a short introduction to the topic, followed by asking students directed questions to guide them to the answer, and finally observe the student as they implement what we just covered to problem solve while providing support when required. Additionally, I include demonstrations or simulations depending on the subject. I make sure to tie everything we learn to real life examples and applications that students may be familiar with to help them understand the concepts better. I can also provide additional practice problems depending on the needs of the student. Due to half of my experience at DePaul taking place during the pandemic, I became skilled in providing tutoring on zoom. I had to be creative in my method of teaching because I couldn't simply rely on a white board or interactive demonstrations. I found online simulations to be extremely useful in this aspect so much so that I continue to make use of these simulations even during in person tutoring. I deeply valued teachers that made me feel comfortable enough to ask any question regardless of how simple or trivial it may seem. That is why I take great care in being as approachable as possible and creating a friendly environment so students can feel comfortable learn with zero hesitations. Please feel free to contact me to schedule a lesson or if you have any questions!
