I plan to become a teacher in the future; currently, I am getting a degree in Art Education from Black Hills State University, but I plan to also teach English after I graduate. As far as my test scores go, I received a 34 on the ACT on my first try. I received a 1540 on the SAT on my first try. I graduated high school with several awards, including the AP scholar with distinction.
My teaching style is very personalized. I tend to use backwards design for teaching students, which means that I take what they need to learn and create lessons from there. Practice tests are a big part of what I focus on, but I tailor the experience to what a student needs, so we can go over what they specifically need to work on in lessons without using the practice tests. For example, if a student struggles with algebra, we can go over the specific parts of algebra that confuse them, such as point slope format or exponents. Once I have determined what a student is struggling with, I typically walk them through exactly what is confusing them, and then drill them with tests until they have perfected the skill. I am currently learning how to be the best teacher I can be through learning about how students work in my college classes. Right now, I am in a special education class that is teaching me the best way to deal with students with exceptionalities. In the past, I have taken an educational psychology class that taught me the best way to go about teaching students. I also took a foundations of American education class that taught me how to find the specific skills each student needs to know for each grade level.
When I'm not tutoring, I enjoy reading, music, and hiking. I also am currently trying to work on my painting skills.
