My interest in tutoring comes from my personal experiences in school as a child. I was blessed to have teachers at different times in my life, who showed a genuine care and interest in me. I have degrees in Library Science and English, I taught first and second graders in a small, charter school in Arizona that served primarily children in foster care. During my two years there, I was able to teach approximately 50 students. Several of my students had educational 'gaps', so being able to continue working them the following year allowed us to develop trust. I then spent 15 years teaching my own children who have significant age differences and learning skills. One had a limited attention span which taught ME to work with the wiggle and be sensitive for teachable moments.

Based upon my experience working with special needs, I began to develop my own curriculum. When tested my daughters results were high; the two oldest graduated from college with honors, the youngest entered college at 16. Learning to appreciate and enjoy reading is fundamental to developing critical thinking skills that are not attained through computer literacy. I approach reading in different ways depending upon the child. Although developing a skill takes work, there can be enjoyment as well. I am happy to provide progress reports. Homework may be given as determined.
