Bio

Hi! My name is Sandy, and I currently teach language arts to high school students in grades 9, 10, and 11. I received my Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education (English) from Millersville University. I also have my Master's of Education and a second certification in Special Education from Arcadia University. I have worked at the same high school for 10 years. Before that, I taught ESL for three years. I've also written for my local newspaper.

I absolutely love teaching English. I love grammar and writing! I see it almost like science. There are rules and principles that govern it, and once you really know and understand them, the rest is easy. Words are magical, and when you can arrange and manipulate them properly, you are magical. The other big part of English class is, of course, literature. Here's where your creativity can take center stage! There's nothing I love more than discussing literature with students. I always say no idea is too 'out there' as long as there's evidence in the text to support it. Let's talk about what you're reading. Once you know and understand literary devices, content becomes much easier to understand.

I have helped many students in language arts, and because I'm also a special education teacher, I have learned how to make reading, writing, and grammar understandable. Sometimes, it just needs to be rephrased, and sometimes I need to present the concepts in a way that the student hasn't heard before, so the light bulb can come on. I am sure I can help you. You've already taken an important step by coming to this site, so great job! Let's work together now to figure out the rest.
