As a high school science teacher for the last 11 and half years I have made it my goal to help students understand science through being passionate about student success. I enjoy teaching physics, chemistry, and biology. I have taught all three subjects for more than 10 years. I have taught college-level chemistry and physics. I have worked at UW-River Falls for 3 years teaching other teachers how to be better physics teachers. I am also a part of the Physics Teacher Resource Association (PTRA) which is a national organization that seeks to teach physics to students and help teachers teach physics with the best practices and to help student success. I have learned a ton from other amazing teachers in PTRA and it has made me a better teacher.
I have enjoyed working with students one-one to best help them when they have a misunderstanding. My goal always is to help students understand the main concepts in science and understand data in science. I am passionate about helping each of my students have success in all that they do. I use simple assessments daily to help track how students are understanding a particular topic and then adjust what I do to best help them.
I am certified to teach high school biology (605), physics (625), chemistry (610), and physical science (601). I got my bachelors from UW-Platteville in Broadfield Science education with a minor in Chemistry and concentration in Biology. I finished getting my Physics certification by getting 9 master credits at UW-River Falls. I have also received 3 years of additional training in teaching high school physics through PTRA Summer Leadership Institute.
I make a focus on the major concepts that are necessary to understand topics so that the math in science makes more sense. I too will work with you to help you understand what you need to have success. I am willing to work through concepts with students to assess misunderstanding and I am willing to reteach misconceptions. I seek to always be encouraging and uplifting to help students.
