I have been teaching and tutoring math and physics at all levels since 1999, and I am extremely comfortable with the material and how to tutor it to the individual student. I have been teaching and tutoring math and physics at all levels since 1999, and I am extremely comfortable with the material and how to tutor it to the individual student. I've completed my 10,000 hours of tutoring and 10,000 hours of teaching, which is a significantly meaningful amount of time according to Malcolm Gladwell's book, Outliers. I specialize in math from basic algebra through advanced calculus, as well as physics with and without calculus. I am fully able to tutor chemistry as well, but since my schedule usually fills with math and physics, I usually do not tutor chemistry.

My fee on Wyzant's platform is what you see. I do not go up nor down with that fee because at that level, I can fill my entire schedule, and I don't believe in wasting either of our time with that nonsense of making my fee higher to negotiate down later. We can get to work much more quickly by skipping that step! Students with whom I work tend to come back to me because I am able to bring about improvement very quickly. Most of my students end my sessions surprised at the level of improvement they are able to reach. I have a 5.0 star rating on Wyzant's platform because I am very effective.

I specialize in math, including algebra, geometry, algebra 2, precalculus, calc AB, calc BC, college calculus, and physics with and without calculus. No tutor can guarantee future results but most tutors cannot claim past results like I have. The national average improvement is 4% after tutoring, but almost all of my students have improved by over 10%, and most by a lot more than that. I have had extremely good results.

I've often turned a low 20 into a 35 or 36. Despite the fact that the national average improvement after tutoring is 4%, my students have seen over a 20% Improvement on the ACT, and that's not even rare for me. That is in fact the majority of cases for me. I have only one (1) SAT or ACT math student not improve by at least 10% over my entire tutoring career which started in 1999, with the obvious exception being those who have already achieved a near perfect grade and don't have the 10% room because what they really want is that 36 on the math ACT or 800 on the math SAT. No tutor can guarantee results, but what I can guarantee is a track record of 20+ years of experience with phenomenal progress. That is actually common for me. Almost every student I have tutored after taking the ACT has found a 10% or better improvement in their scores, with most past students improving by over 20%. TI blow that 4% average improvement out of the water. I tutor for the ACT and SAT test with special focus on the math section, but I also cover the science section of the ACT.

I cater to elite level students and struggling students alike. My clients tend to be very discerning clients who feel that their child's education and future comes before anything else. The PSAT is a solid predictor of SAT and ACT performance, so we should shore up that test as soon as possible. I recommend at least 1 session per week, but for elite level grades, 2 sessions per week may be necessary. Each student is unique, so there is no way to predict whether single sessions or multiple sessions will be necessary. Let's chat! I tutor for every math Regents and AP math test, as well as Regents and AP physics. All of my students have achieved improvement by over 10%, which is double the national average of 5% improvement after tutoring. FYI, "REGENTS" tutoring is too generic, as there are many, many regents in a wide variety of subjects. I only tutor math and physics.

Juan has tutored for the SSAT and SHSAT math sections with great success. He has found that even middle schoolers can increase not just their math skills, but their level of thinking, to the point where they are able to solve abstract problems on their own and, in particular, they are able to solve the math problems found in their standardized tests. The SSAT is a great predictor for the SAT and ACT, so we should get that shored up as soon as possible.

Knowledgeable, wth deep understanding of subject

My children used Juan R as both teacher and tutor over the last few months. In school, they were a few grades ahead, and did not have a teacher to teach them the online curriculum that they do through Johns Hopkins CTY program. Now that their school has hired a teacher to support them, we will not be using his help. The children really enjoyed working with him, and he was able to immediately dive in and help them with any stuck problem and understanding. He was also extremely helpful in teaching them good problem solving habits and in how to keep track of their work/class notes digitally so that they have a paperless paper trail to review issues. He was also able to pinpoint what behaviors were causing repeated errors. So unequivocally recommend.
