I enjoy working with students of all ages. I've offered one-on-one tutoring through several private tutoring companies in Santa Fe and Las Cruces. I majored in Secondary Education English in my undergraduate degree. Since then, I've had many on-going trainings in instructional methods for teaching English language learners and English as a second language learners.

Drawing

Drawing

Art was my undergraduate minor. I've had the pleasure of teaching art for two years at the high school level. These classes were mostly focused on drawing. Students learned the basics of drawing including shading, perspective, enlarging using a grid, and reproducing. We did many sketches from nature using pencil, pen and ink. I'm also an artist. I've done refrigerator art of many characters that my customers request such as Tiger or Betty Boop. These are fun to do with colored pencil for color blends. Most recently I've been experimenting with drawing and painting larger murals. The murals require study of the topic, decisions and layout, color selection, sketching and painting. My philosophy is that anyone can learn to draw.

Public Speaking

Public Speaking

I'll never forget my first time as a public speaker. We just completed eighth grade and I was asked to speak to the parents and faculty. I remember being proud and articulate. That must have been what encouraged me to never stop talking! Anyway, I believe a good public speaker is one who has confidence, poise and articulation. Volume, after all, comes with a good microphone! I took a public speaking class when I was in college and thoroughly enjoyed it. Now, whenever I hear students speak in assemblies or at graduation I always wish someone had asked me to coach them. I'm convinced I would have made them better speakers.

Hi, I've been tutoring elementary students for the past two years through Title I. My major focus has been to assist students to become proficient in Language Arts and Math. Some of my students have needed to begin with the basics of learning the alphabet and numbers. Others have been struggling with multiplication facts. I've assisted students to increase their reading speed. I've taught all aspects of elementary math and language arts. I've also had the opportunity to work with students who are excelling in their grade. With these students I've taught more advanced reading, research and related projects.

Study Skills

Study skills can become good habits. They are easy to learn but not always easy to put into practice. Just like New Year's resolutions, people mean well but have a hard time following through. The first step is knowing what to do. I can teach you that. I have used study skills throughout high school and college. I taught my students to use study skills with various projects. For example, whenever my students were assigned a research project I taught them the steps of how to approach research. Knowing the steps and having strategies are important skills for success.
