I have tutored students in math and statistics since my days at Ohio State university. I like to see my students succeed and be better prepared for their next step of education or career. I have tutored my colleagues on R, Python, VBA, and SQL programming at workplaces as well since I have built various financial models, automation and analytics tools at the companies I worked for and earned good reputation.

Finally, I have also advised many friends on career, especially on quantitative finance and how to break into financial service industry with an IT and software engineering background. I have done it through CFA and FRM designations and master degree in computational finance from Carnegie Mellon University with years of experience at risk management and investment management firms.

In my college and graduate school education, I completed math / statistics courses such as Calculus, Differential Equation, Linear Algebra, Complex Analysis, Real Analysis, Stochastic Calculus, Probability, Stat Inference, Multivariate Regression, Time Series Analysis and Simulation. Homework assignments were often completed using either Matlab or R. In my professional career, especially at Federal Reserve Bank of New York and TIAA, my work often involved using R to do some analysis on financial data. I am currently working at a large consulting firm focusing on financial instrument valuation & modeling and data analytics.

I am a native Chinese speaker who grew up in Taiwan and finished high school education there. I have also frequently posted comments in Chinese on various online news outlets and shared short fictional stores in Chinese on certain forums.

I am a CFA charter holder since 2013 with more than 6 years of real financial service industry experience in risk management and investment management.

I learned SQL while I studies for my bachelor's degree in Computer Science Engineering at Ohio State University. I have used MS SQL Server and Oracle at various software, internet and financial services companies I worke

I am a CFA and FRM Charter holder and earned MS in Computational Finance from Carnegie Mellon University. In addition, I have more than 6 years of experience in risk management and investment management including investment analyst at Carnegie Mellon Investment Office and risk analytics associate at Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Currently, I am working on investment risk and strategy team at a large investment management firm. In my spare time, I also help students prepare for CFA exam.
Microsoft Excel

Microsoft Excel

I used excel extensively at work whether it is complicated INDEX / MATCH, VLOOKUP/HLOOKUP functions or excel with VBA. In addition, I have built several financial models which require passing parameters from excel to R and invoke R functions directly from excel. I also have experience building Monte Carlo simulation and constrained optimization with excel. Last but not the least, I have successfully built an alternative risk analysis reporting system for real asset classes (i.e., energy / infrastructure, agriculture/ timber and commercial real estate investment) using Tableau with excel as the data source.

Python,

Python

I have used python quite often during the last twos years. I have used Python numpy, scipy and pandas packages to re-write my proof-of-concept risk models originally written in R and put the models into production. The models are used to set limits and guideline for TIAA's $240B general account. In addition, I have tutored college students in Python via external referral.
R,

R

During my MS in Computational Finance program at Carnegie Mellon University, R was used extensively to solve multivariate regression, machine learning, time series analysis, simulation and optimization problems. When I worked at Federal Reserve Bank of New York, I used R to develop analytical tools to monitor P/L and risk sensitivities data submitted by large banks. In addition, R was the choice of language at my current job for implementing Gaussian Copula model on credit portfolio tail loss calculation.
SAS,

SAS

I have done more than 3 projects using SAS at my full-time job. Topics include but not limited to random sampling, exploratory data analysis, t-test / ANOVA, multi-variate linear regression and logistic regression.

1. BSE in Computer Science Engineering and MS in Computer Science with 7+ years of SQL experience and 1+ years of teaching experience 2. I am familiar with Microsoft SQL server and have experience with MySQL and Oracle SQL.
Visual Basic

Visual Basic

Visual Basic was used extensively to build administrative tools while I worked at Federal Reserve Bank of New York. The reason was primarily due to the fact that most of my colleagues had a business background and were familiar with VBA, which was syntactically similar to Visual Basic. The sample modules written in Visual Basic are as follows: 1. GUI interface to interact with R functions 2. SQL database related functions: read, update, delete and write 3. File management and manipulation

Knowledgeable and thoughtful!

I absolutely enjoyed my lesson with Kevin. I highly recommend him if you want to learn R, Python, Data Science, and Statistic. He is a true expert, and also very thoughtful to explain the subject matters that I am not familiar with. He is a great teacher.

Planned how to help me before starting

Kevin L is super fast. I thought this was going to take at least twice as long. He seemed to have all the info I needed ready before we started. I feel really insecure any time I get lost and I have a hard time focusing when sleep deprived but he made it really simple for me. I got help in Python.

Very helpful!

Kevin was extremely helpful and kind. He showed me how things worked in another software that I knew better which helped me understand how things worked in the new software I had questions about. This approach really worked well for me, and he also explained it well even without the visual.
