I graduated from Miami University with a Bachelor of Arts in Zoology in 1999, became a diabetes and cancer researcher at The Rogosin Institute, where we encapsulated cancer cells and islets of Langerhans for treatment in cancer and diabetes. In this role I removed pancreas from animals, removed the islets of Langerhans from the pancreas and isolated them. We cultured them in incubators for several days and then encapsulated them in an agarose/agarose membrane. We then helped implant them in animals to see if they could help regulate blood sugar. They did this very well. The cancer team which I helped periodically did a similar experiment using a mouse germ cell line to fight cancer. The cancer program was in phase 1 clinical trials and the diabetes program was getting ready to enter phase 1 clinical trials when I left to become a nurse.
I went to school to become a nurse at Hondros College of Nursing. While going to nursing school I became a tutor for the university my final year of RN school and tutored students in my off hours to pay off some of my debt. I liked it so much I tutored for a year after graduating preparing students for tests and the NCLEX. I graduated summa cum laude from both the LPN and RN programs. I started working at the Christ hospital in the Cardiopulmonary step down unit in 2019. I obtained my BSN through Christ Hosptial online program getting straight As in my classes. I worked in the hospital setting about three years and through COVID before transferring to a Cardiac office to triage there patients and start a Heart Failure education program for patients. I am currently preparing for Certification as a Heart Failure nurse.
