I began my journey as an interpreter for the deaf 20 years ago but put things on hold to raise my beautiful family. With my children almost grown, I went back to school to pursue my dream. I graduated from the ASL program at Terra State Community College last spring and am proud to say that I tested directly into Kent State University's ASL Interpreting program. I commute from my small town which is no easy feat, but it is the best program in the area and this shows my determination!
Throughout my studies at Terra State Community College I have spent many hours of involvement in the deaf community, attending rallies for equal access and participating in community activities. I have volunteered in the classroom as an aid and or observer at Bellevue, Clyde, and Fremont city schools. I have also spent a summer teaching ASL to hearing children in the Kids College program at Terra State Community College.
I care about sharing the language and opening up lines of communication between the hearing and deaf communities.
I am excited to share my knowledge of the language and deaf culture with future students. The world of the deaf is full of great history, culture and a beautiful language.
