I have been a teacher for over 25 years. I have taught both traditional and special education students and have worked as a reading specialist as well. Currently, I teach Middle School English. I have tremendous experience in test preparation and remediation of weak reading and writing skills. Once I get to know my students, I map out a plan to address students' needs. My favorite part about students is when they say, "Wow, it's already over!" I keep students engrossed in different types of activities and games that promote learning while keeping motivation high.
I have tutored students who were emerging readers. Likewise, I have tutored students in 9th grade who were preparing for high school English classes. After tutoring sessions, I like students to give family members immediate information on what we have covered. This helps solidfy and validate their learning and has helped my tutoring sessions to be successful.

I am a certified English teacher and have an advanced degree as a reading specialist. Likewise, I have my undergraduate training in both elementary and special education. I have tutored many students throughout my career and have had success in helping them make gains in their literacy. No one skill in literacy is more important than the other and I interweave all aspects of ELA into my lessons for a comprehensive approach to teaching.

Given my past successes with learners of all ages, I am sure you will not be disappointed in my literacy education. I have children of my own, and have a solid understanding of what makes students tick. My education is grounded in theory and practice and data driven. My schedule is flexible and I often can accommodate most timing requests.
