Hi! My name is Shannon Prescott. I recently graduated from the Eastman School of Music with a bachelors in oboe performance and music education. Throughout my studies at Eastman, I was able to play a variety of musical genres, including baroque, classical, romantic, contemporary, and even a little jazz!

Hi! My name is Shannon Prescott. I recently graduated from the Eastman School of Music with a bachelors in oboe performance and music education. Throughout my studies at Eastman, I was able to play a variety of musical genres, including baroque, classical, romantic, contemporary, and even a little jazz!

I want to create a musical learning experience that works best for YOU! Every student has different learning needs and I want to honor those while working together. We can work on scales, ear training, etudes, solo repertoire, composition, among many other musical topics! I look forward to working with some of you :)

Ear Training

The music education department at Eastman has a high focus on ear training and aural skills. A unique quality of their department is teaching improvisation through ear training and purely listening to music. The most effective way to develop ear training is to listen to and familiarize oneself with music.
General Music,

General Music

I recently graduated from the Eastman School of Music with a bachelors in oboe performance and music education. My work at the Eastman School of Music trained me to teach a general music or vocal classroom. The term “general music” could include hundreds of topics, including but not limited to listening, aural skills, improvisation, composition, and theory. The reality is that most, if not all, people listen to music so general music can mean whatever you want it to!

Oboe

Throughout my studies at Eastman, I was able to play a wide variety of repertoire, including solo, chamber, and large ensemble repertoire. My favorite style to play is baroque, but I also have played classical, romantic, contemporary, and jazz. I like to take a simple approach to teaching oboe, having a high focus on simply playing beautiful music.
