I specialize in all areas of English as a Second/Foreign Language. As a language tutor, I offer you a passionate well-rounded understanding of how languages work. From my extensive and diverse background in teaching, I also bring flexibility and insight. Third, I am compassionate, kind, and patient.

As your language coach, I know that you want more than just knowledge about English. Language learning is dependent on habit-formation, and I will help you develop ways of incorporating what you learn into your language use. For some of you, this may involve “unlearning” aspects of your English and creating new habits. You can think of me as a personal trainer in some ways.

After graduating with a B.A. in Latin American studies and an M.S. in Applied Linguistics, my plan was to travel abroad and teach English. Eventually, I went to Brazil, where I taught for two years. I have taught in intensive English programs at the university level as well as in refugee programs, and I have worked with private students. I have also presented at local TESOL conferences about hands-on interactive practice in the language classroom.

If you want, we can work on understanding grammar and incorporating grammatical accuracy into your English. Did you know that recognizing grammar when reading and listening helps you use grammar correctly in speaking and writing? Perhaps you are interested in accent reduction, fluency, or building confidence in your speaking ability. Perhaps you want to develop your conversation strategies and/or presentation skills. Although I especially enjoy speaking skills, I have extensive experience teaching grammar as well as the four language skills (reading, writing, listening, speaking), and am happy to work on any combination of them with you.
