Bio

I tutored in high school by teaching math to high school friends outside of class, where I helped those who were struggling with high school math, including Algebra, Geometry and Precalculus, by walking them through problems and helping them understand how to draw effective diagrams. I continued this work as a TA for three years in college, where I supervised students in introductory CS courses in the computer lab during evening hours.

I've tutored students of all ages studying for exams like the SAT, GRE and GED. I teach math ranging from pre-algebra through pre-calculus. I walk students through problems ranging from probability and combinations to sets of linear equations, and also provide them with helpful strategies to help them get the right answer. I know how to explain difficult concepts in ways that students can easily understand.

When I teach writing, I employ this framework:
1. Who is your audience? What is going to be important to them?
2. What is the purpose of the written piece? What do you want your audience to know about at the end? What do you need to tell them and what can you leave out?
3. What is the theme of the paragraph you’re writing? How does it support the overall document? What should people know after reading it?
4. What idea are you currently discussing? Does it fit the theme of the paragraph? If you take it out, will the paragraph be weaker?
5. Do the sentences tell a story that supports the idea? Are they even relevant? Can you communicate the same information in one sentence instead of two?
6. Do your grammar and word choice clearly communicate your intended meaning? Could someone easily misinterpret or be confused by what you’ve written?

Very knowledgeable tutor

Jeremy was a very knowledgeable and helpful tutor. He provided good feedback for me a few days before my GRE and that was instrumental in getting the score I needed for my test. Will definitely work with him again if the need arises.

Great, knowledgeable, good communicator instructure for Python 3 issues

I had questions around downloading images from image urls using Python 3. Jeremy immediately understood my goal. Jeremy taught me better method and thinking in how to solve the problem versus just getting me to the solution. His communications is efficient and direct. We shared screens and he could understand what he was looking at and address the understanding. Also critiqued my approaches to solving problems and offered suggestions to improve. He did this quickly and efficiently in terms of time taken. I will definitely use Jeremy again if I have a relevant question for his expertise.

Super helpful!

Jeremy was very knowledgeable about R and very patient in walking me through the dplyr functions. As a student that had only been coding for a couple of weeks I was very overwhelmed but I felt more confident after working with Jeremy.
