I'm Kristin! I graduated cum laude from Montclair State University with my B.A. in Psychology and certifications in both Elementary K-6 Teaching and Child Advocacy. I worked as a special education aide, providing additional reading and math support to students and have worked closely with both classroom teachers, as well as supplemental teachers to ensure their continued success. My passion for coaching led me to pursue a Master's degree specializing in Sports Performance Psychology. I knew how to physically train my athletes but wanted to learn more on how to mentally prepare them for their athletic careers.
I completed my program, graduating magna cum laude in 2015 and worked alongside my employer to develop a Mental Preparation Program that consisted of goal setting and accountability on parents, coaches, and athletes. Parents of those who participated noticed an increase in performance, both in and out of the sport.
I have Orton-Gillingham (phonics based program) training and have been able to adapt lessons to meet the needs of my students. I have spent the last year tutoring specifically in the Orton & Gillingham method.
We as teachers, are inspirational through the words we speak and the lessons we teach. An outstanding teacher is one that stands out to one student (if not more) for having had some impact on their educational career. Teaching has always been a passion of mine and it is this passion and drive that I take with me into the classroom. Guiding students to be able to achieve their highest potential is something I take great pride in. I have spent numerous hours designing fun interactive lesson plans that both, engage and challenge my students.
I love to learn new information and new techniques to engage students. I encourage communication and suggestions on both the parents and the students end as well.
I have worked with programs such as Enivisions Math, Math Trailblazers, etc.
I have worked with several reading programs and have knowledge of IRLAs and DRAs.
