Hello! I became a historian and a museum professional because I was fascinated by the history I learned in school and at museums, and that interest grew stronger when I learned to question the popular narratives of the past and to do my own research! I believe history can be relevant and interesting to everyone, but understand that it doesn't always feel that way if the style of learning is not right for a student or if the topic of history does not seem relatable. As a tutor, I hope to help students find ways to connect and find interest in history/social studies and thereby become stronger students in the subject!

I received a Bachelor's in history and in anthropology from William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, where I graduated summa cum laude, and received a Monroe Scholar research grant to conduct independent research on the memorialization of the Dutch Empire in Amsterdam's landscape. There, I also received a certificate in Public History, taking classes in which I studied how museums teach history. Next, I went on to the University of Delaware, where I received a Master's in History and a Graduate Museum Studies Certificate. I was a teaching assistant for two undergraduate history classes, in which I supported the historical education of classes of 50-100 students by providing guidance for and answering feedback on assignments to teach students how to synthesize historical information and analyze primary sources, including documentary sources and oral histories.

But also essential to my teaching experience has been museum education/interpretation positions at two historic sites in Richmond, Virginia. In these positions, I created and gave tours, often to individuals or small groups, connecting the stories of the past to the tangible buildings and objects around us. Sometimes the tours became almost conversational, as I was guided by visitor questions to shape the tour in a way that would relate most to them. I look forward to working with students to make history engaging to them!
