Hello! My name is Lily and I'm a recent graduate from the University of Tampa with a B.A. in Political Science, a B.A. in International Studies and minors in French and Applied Linguistics. Additionally, I have a TESOL certificate with a micro-credential in English pronunciation. While in college, I realized my passion for learning languages and the cultures that are attached to these languages, so I decided to seek out my TESOL certificate to help others discover how exciting learning a language can be. My professors tried to relate the content back to my interests and when they did, I always found class much more interesting. Therefore, I try to do the same for my students because motivation to learn comes from being interested in the subject.
I follow the Communicative Language Teaching method as I believe languages should be taught not to be memorized, but to be used as a way to communicate with the people around you. Drills and vocabulary memorization are not sufficient for a learner to use language in authentic speech. I accomplish this through creating a learner profile to see where the learner is at in their language skills, what they want to improve, and what they need to improve to communicate effectively. Then, I design a curriculum tailored to the learner's needs.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any additional questions. I look forward to meeting and working with you!
