As someone who came from a low-income environment and went on to become an International Scholar, I feel that I have the first-hand experience that is needed to help people succeed. Throughout my experience in the education world, I’ve worked with diverse students in all grade levels (K-12) and of all nationalities and backgrounds. I know how to deal with different levels of learning, from special needs and behavioral disorders to gifted students and multiple intelligences. I've worked with students one-on-one and in small and large group settings. During my years in the classroom, I’ve achieved many successes with students. I participated in a reading program that won awards and recognition from the school district. I organized several sports activities for special education students, which encouraged even the most withdrawn students to “come out of their shells.” I also assisted with mainstreaming many BD (behavioral disorder) students into regular classrooms. When I walk into a classroom, children love me and other teachers are impressed with my teaching methods and unique ability to connect with students. I believe in the importance of engaging and motivating our students to constantly grow and learn, while offering real life experiences and entertaining lessons that encourage critical thinking and personal success.

I have received my Master’s degree in education from DePaul University and have Type 3 Illinois Teacher Certification. I am looking for a fulfilling job where I will be able to use all of my skills and talents to pass knowledge onto our youth.

I am a passionate musician and educator who is always looking to grow and learn, but still have fun in the process! I love playing sports of all types, from chess to badminton to basketball. Most of all, I like teaching students how to apply what they learn to real life experiences.

Composition (Music)

Composition (Music)

I love to compose music! Composing is creating the music, bringing harmony and melody and words together, and turning it into a song--something that makes sense! To compose requires more than just one aspect of music, like writing; it also requires that you understand theory in order to know how to put the pieces together. The good thing about composing is that, although there are certain rules, you have the freedom to be creative, try new things, and expand the possibilities of music. I can help you because I've been composing songs for over 20 years. I also play several instruments, so I understand music on several different levels. There's nothing greater than getting your idea laid out and enjoying the process.

The first instrument that I ever picked up and played was a guitar. Although I enjoyed it, it wasn't until I played the piano that I knew I really loved music. I started writing songs at the age of 7. Since then, I've played for everything from children's choirs to school bands to professional recording studios. I've played piano now for over 20 years. I've had private lessons, and I've also taught private lessons. The piano is unique because it can control or support any band; it can play the bass as well as the melody and harmony. The piano is an instrument that, no matter how many years you've played it, there's always something more to learn. I'd love to help you learn how to play the piano. I guarantee it will be both educational, challenging, and fun!

General Music,

General Music

I've loved music ever since I was 3 years old. My family has a history of musicians and artists. Because of my bachelor's degree in history, I love to explore the history of music because it is connected to the way our world has developed, including people's personal experiences. I play several instruments, so I know that understanding music theory is half the battle of being able to play any instrument. I attended the American Conservatory of Music and have had private music tutors since I was 12. I've played with several bands and have produced music for computer games, radio, television, labels, music studios, and churches. I've taught music lessons to regular and special needs students. Along with general music theory and instrument playing, I am also adept at reading and charting music, transcribing and composing, recording, and producing.

I've won several poetry contests at a young age and have always enjoyed writing in every form, including songs, ever since I can remember. I've written songs for churches, schools, clients, and myself. My songs have been used on the radio, cable, computer games, for bands, singers, choirs, plays, and in various music studios. I've written in all types of styles, from classical to jazz to hip hop. I can help you become a better writer by helping you develop your ideas and coming up with words and rhythms to support those ideas. I truly love songwriting and can help you love it too!

I've worked with special needs students since 1991, in every aspect, such as the classroom and camp. I have experience working with diverse groups of children and adults--including ELL/ESL, behavioral disorder, Down syndrome, autistic, gifted, and special needs students--on all levels, from academic to musical. I understand that sometimes a little more patience is needed and there may be certain rules or guidelines to follow. I also understand the precautions that need to be taken, such as knowing specific details about each student to be able to effectively work with them and make sure that they're safe. I love working with students and the students always love me because of my high energy, positive attitude, and ability to make learning fun!

Chess

I've loved the game of chess ever since my uncle taught me how to play at the age of 9. As an educator, I've assisted in after school chess programs. Some of the students in the programs have gone on to compete at the state level. I believe that it is a good idea to learn chess at a young age because it is also a good way to understand how people think and develop personal ideas and strategies. Although chess is a game, some people take it very seriously. Therefore, I like to explore the theory and history behind the game. I look forward to helping you learn and play the game.
