Bio

I am currently a full-time working photographer but am passionate about all things art related. I excel at fine art, realism drawing, painting and photography but can work in a multitude of medias. Whether you wish to learn about style, technique, creating art or what it takes to be passionate about what you are creating, I am excited to talk with you. I love getting to know people and what makes them tick creatively.

Whether you wish to learn about style, technique, creating art or what it takes to be passionate about what you are creating, I am excited to talk with you. I went to school for fine arts and photography. I have taken over 20 different classes specifically in the art field. Those classes focused mainly on drawing, painting, techniques in both drawing and painting, photography, history of art and photography, lighting styles, composition, contrast focus in black and white and color theory. I have been a practicing artist for more than 10 years and have a career in the art field. Currently I am the Photography Manager of a portrait studio. I manage all the equipment and coach new and current employees on photography lighting styles, composition and editing using a program called Darkroom. I have also maintained my own business for the past 8 years in which I create custom fine art portraits for clients.

We can go over more detailed topics like composition, color, and how to properly use contrast. I am also knowledgeable on different supplies and techniques of application. I would love to help you build your own sense of art and what it should be verses what you would like it to mean in your life. Whether you are looking at art as a hobby or a potential career path, I am here to help you develop your skills in whatever manner I can. I have taken 9 years of classes in drawing throughout high school and at Cornell College and The Institute of Art. But i have been a practicing pencil artist for 15 years. Classes ranged from composition, color, contrast and technique. I prefer to draw portraits, but can also work on still life, and landscapes. I am proficient in black & white and color pencil drawing using either Ebony or PrismaColors. I focus mainly on hyper realism as it focuses on patience, attention to detail and a steady hand. I can work in abstract design concepts as well. Starting first with a journal, and planning process to collecting references and then putting it together in final format. Other drawing medias I work in are pastels, chalk, and pen & ink. These medias allow you to be freer in style and motion of hand. I tend to use these methods as practices to keep my hand fresh and to loosen my mind to not be too strict since I mainly work in fine detail.

I have taken 6 years worth of classes in painting throughout high school and at Cornell College and The Institute of Art. I have been a practicing painter for 14 years. I focused on design, composition, color, and technique with a bit of art history thrown in while attending college. I am proficient mainly in oil painting as it allows for more blending techniques and patience. I also have worked with acrylic and watercolors over the years. Though I do not prefer these medias as they dry quickly and are meant for faster works. I use those styles when practicing more painterly designs and quick studies to keep my hands fresh. My personal style focuses on hyper realism, as it requires more focus on details. But i have background experience in abstract and nonobjective compositions.

I sang in choir from fourth grade to sophomore year at Cornell College, but altogether for 16 years. In high school I was selected to sing in the varsity choir at age 15 and was chosen for multiple solo opportunities. I can read treble clef music scores and am able to play some piano for accompanying help. I am able to give tutoring in tonality and projection as well as giving breathing exercises to elongate singing periods. I know several warm up practices to heighten dexterity of teeth, tongue and lips. Singing is a big passion for me, and I would love to help you expand your love for the craft as well.

I've been playing golf since I was nine, so that's roughly 15 years. I took lessons from pros at numerous clubs within that time. I played on the golf team throughout high school and was selected my sophomore year to play at varsity level. I attended Cornell College, where I was one of five recruited to play on their division three team at their number 3 spot. We can build up muscle memory on the driving range, and work on accuracy and patience on the putting greens. If you would like to play either a 9 or 18 hole round we can, but be prepared to walk the course as it works up your endurance and will help maintain fitness levels to be able to play in any condition!

Lauren taught my daughter beginning sketching skills. Lauren created a fun learning environment, which my daughter really appreciated. We are looking forward to the next lesson!
