About Kathy

Bio

I am a state-certified teacher with a current master’s degree, reading specialist certification, and 25+ years of experience working in public and private schools. I’ve taught at the elementary, intermediate, middle, high school, and adult levels. I have provided over 1,750 hours of in-person and online tutoring.

In addition to teaching and tutoring, I have worked as a consultant on a national math curriculum and have written and sold two school-to-work curricula.

As a fulltime teacher...

I am a state-certified teacher with a current master’s degree, reading specialist certification, and 25+ years of experience working in public and private schools. I’ve taught at the elementary, intermediate, middle, high school, and adult levels. I have provided over 1,750 hours of in-person and online tutoring.

In addition to teaching and tutoring, I have worked as a consultant on a national math curriculum and have written and sold two school-to-work curricula.

As a fulltime teacher whose primary responsibilities are to students who struggle with reading and/or math, I've learned a lot about making these subjects meaningful, accessible, and engaging. I can assess difficulties and specifically target areas for instruction and growth. I am committed to helping all learners learn in the manner that best suits them and am well-versed in the science of reading.

Skilled Reading Tutor

Kathy is an excellent tutor! After researching on Wyzant for just the right tutor, I was lucky enough to find Kathy. She tutored my rising fourth, sixth, and eighth grader in reading over the summer months. Kathy is super sweet and patient. She's also knowledgeable and has a plethora of resources to remediate, reinforce, and enrich reading skills. For my daughter who struggled most with reading, leveled readers and phonics helped immensely. Pre and post assessments were provided to track their growth over time. They actually enjoyed reading chapter books with Kathy too! In just two short weeks, I noticed a major difference in the girls fluency and comprehension. At the end of the summer, the girls had improved overall in reading comprehension. My girls just adore Kathy. They even asked if Kathy would homeschool them?! To compromise, I continued their tutoring lessons with Kathy.

Kathy is an amazing teacher. She is responsible and communicates effectively. Her classes are always planned and carried out smoothly. She works with both of my children 4th and 7th graders. Her in class practices are right at their grade levels. She knows how to teach these grade levels and find right material for kids to practice based on their levels. Her comments to the English writing are effective and easy to follow. Kathy encourages them to think and good at keeping both my children stay on tasks and focused during the sessions.
