About Kathryn

Bio

First of all, I loved teaching Literature and History, and I really like being around young people. While I retired after 21 years of teaching at an Alternative School, I still want to be involved and help others to realize that learning is fun. It took me a long time to complete my college degree, so I understand that not everyone follows the same path to success.

First of all, I loved teaching Literature and History, and I really like being around young people. While I retired after 21 years of teaching at an Alternative School, I still want to be involved and help others to realize that learning is fun. It took me a long time to complete my college degree, so I understand that not everyone follows the same path to success.

Secondly, I want the student to be happy with the lessons and feel they are gaining knowledge that will get them through their classes. I would hope for a good student/tutor match, Your goals are important to me. Personally, I am easy to get along with and like young people.

Literature has been an important part of my life and hope to impart how it flows from the page to mind, heart, stage and art. Good literature influences our lives in positive ways, and can even change our world. It helps us to understand our world and the people around us. I have taught ESL for only one year, but I really respected my students, understanding their desire and efforts to learn English. Writing skills are so essential to life and many areas of work, and can be taught.

What makes me a good History tutor is my belief that one learns new things everyday, and that learning is a lifelong process. History became my second love (after literature) when I realized that history is stories that are true life. People and their lives are fascinating. Studying and evaluating the events of our world should be exciting and enjoyable. As a teacher I attended seminars sponsored by the Holocaust Museum and the Library of Congress. I visited Heart Mountain in Wyoming to learn about the Japanese Internment camps, and spent 4 days studying the Constitution with eminent scholars. I encouraged my students to personalize their learning by asking them to choose topics related to the area of study to research and present to class. Some would focus on weapons of war, but sometimes students would choose a topic that was very personal, like a family friend who was murd
