Hi everyone, my name is Ryan. I've been working as a freelance pianist and composer over the last decade or so. I've also worked in high schools as a choir director and tutor. I bring real world experience into my teaching, with years of performing in musical theater orchestras, recording on film scores, and composing for ensembles of all shapes and sizes. As a teacher, I'm particularly passionate about meeting students where they're at and getting creative with ways to communicate to meet the student's needs. I'm empathetic in my teaching, and I've often written short pieces of music specifically tailored to a student.
In addition to music, I have always excelled at math; to the point of nearly pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering. I love breaking down problems to the simplest building blocks and tackling them from new angles.
As a composer, I have a deep understanding of how music works and how it all comes together to create something beautiful. I come at it from a very well rounded approach, bringing my classical training and experience in jazz/ pop/ rock to meet the student's needs.
