Music

Music Theory,

Music Theory

In the twelve (12) years I served as Music Teacher and Band Director of one of the three (3) high schools in my district, I taught the AP MUSIC THEORY course, where my students’ scores on the exam were always higher than the national average. I also took several Theory and Composition classes as part of my Master’s degree coursework, which I complete just about a year ago. It would be my pleasure to assist you in teaching your musical goals!!!
Saxophone,

Saxophone

I have played Saxophone since the age of 9, where I began giving solo recitals. In high school, in addition to my school's marching, concert, and Dixieland jazz programs, I was selected to participate in the All-District Honor Band for four (4) years, Official PCC Tournament of Roses Honor Band for two (2) years, and California All-State for one (1) year. At Pasadena City College and California State University, Los Angeles, I participated in the marching, concert, jazz, opera, musical theatre, new music, and commercial music programs. Somewhere along the way I began to concentrate on woodwind doubling by adding Clarinet and Flute to my Saxophone and Oboe playing. As an adult, I have performed in more than twenty (20) musical theatre pit orchestras, about ten (10) jazz and rock bands, a few casuals and worship service performances, and many more varied types of ensembles. I specifically focus upon Musical Theatre, Dixieland Jazz, Improvisational Skills, and modern solo literature, for example the Tango Exercises of Astor Piazolla.
Sight Singing

Sight Singing

Serving as teacher of this unique and fascinating course has worked to advance my knowledge and expertise on the subjects of Music Theory, Musicianship, and Class Piano. My students' success in passing rate of the exam was higher than the national average. I have extensive experience in the elements of written theory, composition, sight-singing in Movable Do, and ear-training activities.

Geena is a Real Treasure!

We were beyond lucky to find Geena. We posed a particular challenge, in that we had two students preparing for the Music Theory AP test - but the official AP class wasn't available! We needed more than a tutor; we needed someone with deep knowledge of the subject, the test itself, the available teaching materials, and how to make it come alive for the students. Fortunately, this is exactly what Geena brings to the table, along with a great manner that left our students feeling upbeat after every lesson.

Knowledgeable and patient teacher

Geena helped me accomplish triads in context for my college course. Major Scales and Key Signatures as well. Geena was very patient and went step by step on the lesson.

Your Search is Over.

If you are looking for a responsible, reliable, and knowledgeable AP Music teacher, your search is done. She is patient, kind, supportive, makes class fun, cares for every single one of her students, and has a passion for music that cannot go unnoticed. She has knowledge way beyond the typical AP Music Theory curriculum. You will not regret working with her

Super Teacher.

Immediately, I knew she would be good. Her passion for teaching shows. Her approach is not pushy. She was always engaged, probing, asking questions and most important....listening. Their was not the normal silence when the instructor was searching for what to do next or looking at the clock. She was ready. She made my lesson fun. I feel honored that I found her on Wyzant.
