Having taught reading and special education for eight years, I feel strongly about incorporating a student's interests and strengths into whatever subject matter we are covering. I am creative and innovative in my explanations and presentations of the subject matter. I can adapt it to an individual's abilities. Knowing that not all students learn most effectively in the same manner, I utilize multisensory approaches whenever possible and appropriate. My goal during the course of a tutoring session is for the student to experience some degree of success. My methods are not always conventional -- my background in speech and theatre ensures that -- but they are responsive to and respectful of the individual's needs. If one way of teaching a topic is not working, I can think quickly of a different way. Everyone can learn anything given the resources, time, and opportunity.
