About Denise

Bio

I'm a former HS English teacher with over 15 years of teaching experience with IB English, AP English, and Research and Writing. I've offered individual and small group tutoring on IB Extended Essay, AP Capstone, SAT/ACT Writing and Reading sections, and in college level writing and research projects as well. I'm a former HS English teacher with over 15 years of teaching experience with IB English, AP English, and Research and Writing. I've offered individual and small group tutoring on IB Extended Essay, AP Capstone, SAT/ACT Writing and Reading sections, and in college level writing and research projects as well. I'm an expert in getting my students to write compelling and unique college essays for US, UK, and European universities. My master's degree is in literature and writing studies and working especially with struggling students. I've worked both international and US schools and in both K-12 and HigherEd. I understand the rigorous nature and the high expectations of college-level work and college admissions. Having taught courses such as Freshman Composition as an college instructor and advanced courses such as IB English Literature and AP English Language and Composition, I possess a breadth of knowledge of the types of assessments students encounter in their coursework.

With over 20 years working as an editor/writer in various capacities both professionally and personally for friends and family, I've become skilled in providing effective and consistent feedback to students of all ages and am a master at reworking resumes and cover letters for both recent graduates and mid-career changes.

I'm a dedicated educator who will work diligently to help you improve your skills and to find your own talents. I promise to help make essay writing, research, SAT/ACT prep, grammar, and literature analysis easier and more accessible for you.

I've been an avid reader since I was kid tackling hefty novels, such as Lord of the Rings, in middle school, and have a regular stack of literature I'm reading. One of my other favorite activities is doing the daily New York Times Crossword puzzle.

Denise was preparing my daughter for SAT reading and SAT essay. Denise has tons of experience preparing students for SAT classes, and it shows. She was able to give my daughters the pointers and instructions that she needed, and we saw her testing score improve just after the first class.

Honors European Literature Class Final Paper Assistance.

Denise was a lifesaver by squeezing my son in for a last-minute same-day tutorial on an AP European literature honors class essay that is due the next day. The instructions were very complicated, and the assignment was very unusual, but she still took the time to thoroughly read the pages of instructions and rubric. After completing this part, she then worked with my son by focusing on the nature of the assignment and making sure the work fit into the parameters of the assignment instructions and rubric. She also helped him learn how to create endnote . She also helped with MLA tips. The final cherry on top was her last read through his final paper, after he did everything suggested in the tutoring session, to make sure all is well before submission.

Denise met with my daughter, who had stalled out on her zest for college applications, and clearly got the wheels turning.
