great tutor
Makes material digestible. Goes into detail and makes sure you understand. Does not hesitate to repeat steps if it means you understand the material.

Resistant and not wanting to listen
I had two lessons with Alan in which he was rude and did not want to listen to what me and my sister wanted to do for our lesson. We wanted to review example practice problems our professor gave us. I sent him the resources a week in advance but he did not look at the material. During the lesson, he spent time arguing that he could not go through the material because it would be an infringement on Wyzant's academic integrity policies. I continued to explain that the material was not homework and would not be an infringement. He continued to push back until he finally opened the material and looked at it. In the second lesson, he tried to share his own resources. When my sister and I said that we wanted to stick with going through what our professor had, he pushed back and said that his resources would be more beneficial and he spent years putting it together. I reiterated that our professor said the exam would be like those example problems and therefore we wanted to go through them. He did not respond and shook his head in annoyance. When we had 5 min left of the lesson, he moved on to another problem. I assumed he would finish on time, but instead he kept going past the time. He said nothing about the time and when he finished, he asked if we would continue until 15 minutes and added that he would be charging us for 1 hr 15 instead of the 1 hr that we scheduled.
Brooklyn, 4 lessons with AlanTutor responded:Two USC students choose to schedule 5 sessions for a Financial Accounting tutor instead of asking their professor or Teaching Assistant from USC Marshall School of Business for understanding of correct answers to test questions in a 275 page “Course Reader” book distributed to their class. During our first 2 sessions in preparing for Midterm Exam 1 on Oct 17, I used neutral accounting material. Brooklyn’s replied, “Sounds like a good plan, I think that will help a lot.” Oct 27: received a “Course Reader” & booked 3 sessions. Before the 3rd session, I looked at the Course Reader, in addition to the course syllabus section Collaboration Policy and Copyright and No Recording Notice. I was concerned that reviewing the Course Reader would be a violation of Wyzant’s Academic Honesty Policy that provides ethical and professional boundaries within which tutors and students are to follow. Tutors are prohibited from doing homework, practice tests, “open book” tests or quizzes, timed assignments, case studies, data analysis, and projects for or with students. Academic dishonesty is any form of cheating and plagiarism which results in students receiving unauthorized assistance in an academic exercise or receiving credit for work which is not their own. Likewise, a student may not solicit this kind of assistance. My goal is to tutor financial principles of accounting with neutral material and Excel worksheets. We define accounting terms and concepts while asking questions to evaluate comprehension throughout a session. If students understand what we cover, they should be able to work on material provided by their instructor. It may take additional work and study, but it is possible, if they put forth the effort and invest time in this subject. 3rd Session: 11/03/23 Reviewed questions in the Course Reader. After our 3rd session, I asked Professor Sweeney, CPA; at USC Leventhal School of Accounting if students were permitted to request help from outside tutors on material in the Course Reader. 4th Session 11/04/23: Looked at q

Excellent
I really appreciated Alan's help and his knowledge and understanding. I found Alan to be an excellent tutor because he not only didn't just focus on my specific questions, but he also caught some trouble areas on his own as we were just talking and was nice enough to let me know and make suggestions. Thanks Alan, I'll use him again.

knowledgeable and immervise
Love Alan, we dived right into my first Financial Accounting class I had a test after this and was really struggling to get even the basics wrapped around my head. He came in and gave me the idea rather quickly and tailored to my needs. I had at least 4 question from that one session that came in the test which he said were really important. Highly recommend Allan!

General review
Seems to have a passion for teaching and tutoring all things excel and provides worksheets for you to learn with on your own time. Just make sure if you want to learn something specific, you provide him with the physical documentation before your lesson to help tailor the session towards your needs.
