Are you tired of Math not making sense? Did you forget the joy of how it feels when everything comes together? If so, I should be able to help. I love Mathematics and see it as a unique language that is both challenging and fun to explore. Many times students get caught up in learning for "the test" and forget to see the big picture in which everything one learns in Mathematics connects to something that one already learned. My special skill is to find this connection and thus help each student rebuild their understanding so that they can use their knowledge not only on the test, but way beyond it.

I am new in Texas coming here from New Jersey where I worked as a Mathematics teacher and junior college professor teaching classes from Algebra I through Calculus. About half of my work in the HS was with concurrent enrollment (dual credit) students. The other half of the day was spent preparing younger students to be ready for the said college level classes and working with other teachers to ensure that all transitions happen smoothly. So in summary, I can easily relate to most students and material in high school and junior college and have much experience in guiding students towards being ready for college level classes.

I have lived in several countries and have grown up as the nerd who plays sports or the jock who does Math (depending on whom you happen to ask). This gives me the unique insight to several different styles of thought and communication styles. After speaking with someone I am usually able to present an idea to them in their language/style, thus making it easier for them to understand it. In the end, Math is just a language and I can guide you along to understand it by filling in the missing parts and connections.

I look forward to heaving from you and hope that I can help you get ahead in Mathematics.

Approved Subjects

Homeschool

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

I've taught Algebra 1 as a teacher and wrote the curriculum for it at my high school. While curricula change somewhat from school to school, the main ideas and concepts used and learned remain the same.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

I have over five years of experience teaching Algebra 2 and Algebra 2 Honors at a HS. I have taught classes leading up to Algebra 2 and classes that follow Algebra 2 (Pre-Calculus/Trig as well as Calculus). Additionally, I also wrote the latest curriculum for a HS for Algebra 2.
Calculus,

Calculus

I have taught Mathematics for 10+ years, 5 of those as a Calculus teacher. I helped shape the class into a dual enrollment class with local colleges in two different states. During this time I have also created a significant amount of support and supplementary material to help tackle/explain the more difficult topics.
Geometry,

Geometry

I have five years of teaching high school and college mathematics, including Geometry.
Precalculus,

Precalculus

I have taught Pre-Calculus 1 and 2 as a dual enrollment course for four years. The second portion was 80% based on trigonometry and prepared students for college-level Calculus. Since the course uses a college and a high school book and we generally do not have the funds to get two sets of books for each class given the frequent version updates, I created my own materials which I am able to use when tutoring as supplements. Historically my students have outperformed the average at the college that I teach by 10-13% on the college given assessments.
SAT Math,

SAT Math

I have tutored SAT math since 2008 with my 1-on-1 students increasing in score an average of 102 points. Besides this, I also taught SAT prep at a high school for two years with the average math score increasing over 70 points per student. As a teacher I have taught every class that the SAT Mathematics portion tests.
Prealgebra

Math

ACT Math,

ACT Math

I have helped several students not only get into the university they wanted, but also get some scholarship money to help pay for their tuition. Many schools have an automatic scholarship once a certain score is reached and that has been what I have been focusing on with my recent students.

My students generally outperformed the students at the college by 10-13% on the college given assessments.

Great Calculus Instructor

Very knowledgeable & patient. Very helpful because not only explains the ‘how’ but also explains the ‘why’ which has been missing in my Calculus BC classroom.

Jennifer, 2 lessons with Taras

excellent

Again did a great job getting my son to understand the concepts he is having trouble with. Will continue to use him moving forward

Helped with Calculus

He helped my daughter understand calculus at a deeper level and allowed her to maintain an A in an AP class. He takes the time to make sure she understands before moving on to the next concept. I would recommend Taras to any student!

John, 11 lessons with Taras

Knowledgeable

Taras is very knowledgeable with geometry. He helped my daughter a great deal. Highly recommend. My daughter felt he did a good job explaining to her and not just providing answers.
