About Virginie

Bio

Being a Certified mathematics Teacher, grades 6-12, I have taught high school mathematics for many years. I have also been teaching various courses in math and French to University students as well. I am very patient and understand that some students have a fear of mathematics, often due to a lack of understanding the basics. Being a Certified mathematics Teacher, grades 6-12, I have taught high school mathematics for many years. I have also been teaching various courses in math and French to University students as well. I am very patient and understand that some students have a fear of mathematics, often due to a lack of understanding the basics. Students often need to be retaught what was not learned previously with an experienced and patient teacher. I believe students learn best when they enjoy the lessons, especially mathematics so my approach is to engage them as much as possible and add a sense of humor.

I have had great results with my previous students on a one on one basis, I even have had students improving gradually their grade from a F to an A. Of course, it improves the student's confidence tremendously, and the parents are very happy as well!

I teach many topics in mathematics, Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, Calculus, SAT, French etc.

I hold a Mathematics degree from University of California at Santa Cruz, a Baccalaureate in Economics from France and I have 7 pilot licenses, including commercial pilot and flight instructor in airplanes.

Being a native from France, I love to teach French as well. I have taught in International Schools, Berlitz and Inlingua, which has given me tools to use the best method for students to learn conversational French.

Virginie has tutored both of my high school students, twins with very different styles of learning. Both were resistant to go to a tutor, & when they came home both told me how amazing she was at tutoring (w/out me even asking). In just 1 meeting w/ my son on Calculus, his grade went from a D to a high B, then on to an A. He is normally a good math student, but was struggling w/ this subject - he said she filled in all of the missing pieces. Virginie tutored my daughter in Math for SAT Prep. Virginie was excellent with my son during their first session. She put him right at ease and was able to work through a lot of material with him. They focused on going through some tests and quizzes from his Algebra 1 class . By the end of the session he had a better understanding of what he had found challenging.
